Iowa City, IOWA – The Purdue track & field team won five events and helped set two meet records on the opening day of the Larry Wieczorek Invitational on Friday at the University of Iowa Recreation Building.
At the highly-competitive meet that featured eight top-25-ranked teams, the Boilermakers earned seven personal-best times and 13 top-five finishes in Iowa City, Iowa.

Purdue's first victory of the day came in the women's high jump, where senior Janae' Moffitt set a meet record with a jump of 1.81 meters.
Another meet record fell courtesy of junior Jalil Brewer in the premier shot put event. In a final that featured several Olympians, Brewer placed sixth overall and second among collegiate competitors as his mark of 19.13 meters broke the meet record. In the open shot put competition, freshman Johnny Vanos placed first with a mark of 16.02.
The Boilermakers' first win on the track came in the 600-meter run, as freshman Ella Robinson won the open event with a personal-best time of 1:33.07. Robinson was one of four Purdue runners to set personal-record times in the men's and women's open 600-meter event.
Purdue posted two wins in the 200-meter competition to close out the evening. Senior Samson Colebrooke won the men's premier race in 21.28, ahead of senior teammate Waseem Williams, who was fifth in 21.62. If Colebrooke didn't already own the fourth-fastest time in program history, his time tonight would be seventh-fastest in the Purdue record books.
Freshman Kerris Roberts also earned a 200-meter victory, in the women's open race. She finished in 24.49 seconds to set a personal record.
Along with five Boilermaker wins, senior Jaden Mattox and sophomore John Pieper earned runner-up finishes. Mattox's came in second in the finals of the long jump, with a mark of 5.94 meters, while Pieper was second in the 3,000-meter open, in 8:26.50.
The meet concludes tomorrow, with competition beginning with field events at 1 p.m. ET/noon CT, and running events at 2:30 p.m. ET/1:30 p.m. CT.
