WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue track & field team faces eight top-25 teams this weekend at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa, from Jan. 17-18.

The meet commences on Friday, Jan. 17, with field events at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. CT, and running events beginning at 6:27 p.m. ET/5:27 p.m. CT. Saturday's competition begins at 1 p.m. ET/noon CT, with field events, and running events starting at 2:30 p.m. ET/1:30 p.m. CT. A complete schedule of events can be found on HawkeyeSports.com.

Along with host-Iowa, the Boilermakers will compete against Arizona, Baylor, Illinois, Iowa State, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
 
In the Rankings
In the Preseason Indoor Track & Field National Rating Index, the Purdue men are ranked No. 38 and the women are No. 58 nationally. Individually, 10 Boilermakers earned national rankings, with seven in the top-18 and three in the top-10.
 
Senior Janae' Moffitt is No. 6 in the country in the women's high jump, while junior Jalil Brewer comes in at No. 8 in the men's shot put. Also in the preseason top-18 national rankings are senior Jah Strange (No. 10) and junior Tamar Greene (No. 13) in the men's triple jump, junior Waseem Williams (No. 11) and senior Samson Colebrooke (No. 18) in the 60-meter dash and senior Jaret Carpenter (No. 14) in the 5000-meter.
 
All seven men's opponents appear in the preseason rankings, with five in the top-20. Wisconsin leads the way at No. 11, followed by No. 12 Iowa State, No. 15 Illinois, No. 16 Iowa, No. 20 Baylor, No. 29 Minnesota and No. 58 Arizona. For the women, six are ranked and three are in the top-25. Minnesota paces the field at No. 7, followed by No. 13 Iowa, No. 25 Wisconsin, No. 32 Baylor, No. 74 Iowa State and No. 96 Illinois.
 
Last Time Out: Gene Edmonds Memorial Invitational
At the two-day, 14-team Gene Edmonds Memorial Invitational at Lambert Fieldhouse from Jan. 10-11, Purdue combined to set or tie three top-10 marks in program history, win 17 events and notch a total of 26 personal records. It was Purdue's first two-day meet of the season and the final home meet of the year.
 
Senior Rebecca Coan won the pentathlon with a personal-best total of 3,851 points, fifth-most in program history. Coan is the fifth Boilermaker to eclipse 3,800 points in the event in team history and the first since 2001.
 
Senior Samson Colebrooke and sophomore Noah McBride added their names to the record book in the 60-meter dash. In the semifinals, Colebrooke finished first overall with a time of 6.65, tying his personal record that is tied for the third-fastest time in team history. McBride was fifth overall, and his time of 6.79 is tied for the 10th-fastest in program history.
 
Looking Back at Last Season's Larry Wieczorek Invitational
Last season at the Larry Wieczorek Invite, the Boilermaker women finished sixth and the men placed eighth in a highly-competitive field that featured four top-26 men's teams and five top-50 women's programs. Purdue broke three meet records on Jan. 18-19, 2019, and earned a total of 19 top-five finishes. Current Boilermakers Jah Strange (triple jump), and Brittney Campbell (600-meter run) each earned wins. Campbell's victory came in a meet-record time of 1:32.79.
 
Up Next: Rod McCravy Memorial
Next weekend, Purdue heads east to Lexington, Kentucky, for the Rod McCravy Memorial. Kentucky hosts the two-day meet, on Jan. 24-25, with action on Friday beginning at noon ET, and Saturday's competition commencing at 9:30 a.m.
