JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – One-hundred percent of the Purdue track & field men competing on the opening day of the NCAA East Regional advanced to Friday's quarterfinals. Waseem Williams and Samson Colebrooke (100-meter dash) along with Brian Faust (400-meter dash) each earned a bid to the next round.
Leading the way in the 100-meter dash was Waseem Williams, who tied as the 8th-fastest man at the meet thus far with a sprint of 10.29 seconds. The Purdue event record-holder secured his quarterfinal appearance after winning his heat. Teammate Samson Colebrooke will join him, after placing 15th overall with a time of 10.35 seconds. Colebrooke, who finished outside the top three in his heat, earned the qualifying position as one of the next six fastest times.
The two sprinters are among 24 slated to race again Friday at 6:15 p.m. ET. Split across three heats, the top 12 will advance to the NCAA Championships in Austin (made up of the top three from each heat plus the next three best times).
Brian Faust advanced to the men's 400-meter dash quarterfinals, taking place Friday at 5:45 p.m. ET following his personal-best of 45.95 seconds.
