WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue track & field program produced 13 honorees following the Big Ten Championships in Iowa City, Iowa. Five men's student-athletes received first-team All-Big Ten recognition, while four women's student-athletes were named to the first-team and another four to the second-team.
The Boilermakers combined for four first-place event finishes, led by Tamar Greene, who was one of just two men's student-athletes across the Big Ten to produce victories in more than one discipline. Greene recorded first-place in the triple jump (53-00.00/16.15-meters) before competing as the first leg in the winning 4x100-meter relay team only 10 minutes later.
Like Greene, Jalil Brewer earned an individual victory. Brewer was bestowed a first-place medal for his 66-05.25/20.25-meter shot put throw, which ranks as No. 8 in the nation heading into the Jacksonville Regional. Brewer's throw was a personal-best by almost an entire meter and checked in as the No. 3 thrower in Purdue history.
The women's first-team nods make up the 4x400-meter champion team. Brittney Campbell, Myia Dorsey, Kyelah Hodges and Samara Miller earned the medal with a time of 3:36.63. Additionally, Jaden Mattox highlighted the women's second team awards after earning a second-place podium finish in the long jump with her personal-best of 16.18-meter mark.
Additionally, Waseem Williams and Camille Christopher were selected as the men's and women's sportsmanship award recipients.
The Big Ten Conference office recognizes students from each team as Sportsmanship Award Honorees. The students chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, the students must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. These students are now candidates for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, as the conference office will honor one male and one female from each institution at the end of the school year.
