WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's golf team is set to host the 17th-annual Lady Puerto Rico Classic, starting play Sunday at the Rio Mar Country Club River Course in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. The Boilermakers' welcome a 14-team field to this year's event, including a pair of top-10 teams, five of the top-25 and four Big Ten opponents.
Purdue is coming off a sixth-place performance at the UCF Challenge, opening the spring before heading to Puerto Rico for the first time since 2003. The Boilermakers topped five top-50 programs in the performance and the four other Big Ten programs in the field, shooting eight-under 856. Junior Micaela Farah shot a career-best seven-under 209 to tie for fifth place individually and received Big Ten Women's Golfer of the Week honors for her efforts.
Farah joins a familiar group in the Puerto Rico field this week, teeing up alongside seniors Ida Ayu Indira Melati Putri and Covadonga SanJuan and freshman Danielle du Toit. Sophomores Inez Wanamarta and Lauren Guiao will tee it up as well, aiming to improve upon their efforts in Orlando.

Micaela Farah, Junior: Named the Big Ten Women's Golfer of the Week after a career-best 54-hole score of seven-under 209 at the UCF Challenge … Her three-round total matched the No. 7 score in program history … has played six of her 12 rounds on the season at or under par, including all three rounds in Orlando … logged a career-low mark of 67 in the opening round of the Illini Women's Invitational.
Danielle du Toit, Freshman: Tied with Farah for the Boilermakers' low score average at 72.75, playing 7-of-12 rounds on the season at or under par … has been Boilermakers' No. 2 finisher in all four events this season, including a top-10 showing at the Illini Women's Invitational … had four straight rounds under par, finishing the Windy City Collegiate Classic with a collegiate-best score of five-under 67, and playing all three rounds at Illinois under par.
Ida Ayu Indira Melati Putri, Senior: Played even with Farah over the final two rounds at UCF, shooting three-under 69 in the second and one-under 71 in the third … tied with du Toit for 20th place at UCF, her second top-20 effort of the season … notched her fourth career top-10 finish with a collegiate-low score of eight-under 208 at the Illini Women's Invitational, including a career-best, four-under 68 in the second round.
Covadonga SanJuan, Senior: Made her season debut at the UCF Challenge, counting a team score in two of three rounds … played her best round of the week in the opening 18 holes, carding a one-over 73 … played even par on par 4's for the tournament, and was one-under on par 5's … made eight birdies for the tournament.
Inez Wanamarta, Sophomore: Counted a team score on two of three days at UCF, shooting one-over 73 in the first and third rounds … has turned in a team score in 91.5 percent of her career rounds at Purdue … played just one fall event in 2018, posting Purdue's low tournament total at the Landfall Tradition … turned in the team's low score in all three rounds at Landfall, including a mark of even-par 72 in the second 18.
Lauren Guiao, Sophomore: Played as an individual at UCF, shooting a season-best 222 for 54 holes … matched her career best in the final round with a one-under 71 … appeared at the Illini Women's Invitational and Windy City Collegiate Classic in the fall … turned in a team score in three-of-six fall rounds, including a collegiate-low score of one-under 71 in the second round at Illinois.
THE COURSE
The Lady Puerto Rico Classic will be played in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico for the 11th straight year, moving there from San Juan in 2009, and will be moved back to the Rio Mar Country Club's River Course after moving over to the Ocean Course in 2018. PGA legend Greg Norman designed the Rio Mar Country Club River Course along the Mameyes. Married with the lay of the land, the island itself dictates the holes. The result is a course for all skill levels, full of native foliage, generous fairways and shallow bunkers.

LADY PUERTO RICO CLASSIC HISTORY
Purdue has won its annual spring event once in its 16-year history, taking the 2009 event title behind medalist honors from Maria Hernandez. Last season Wanamarta and Farah posted top-20 finishes as Wanamarta was 13th at 13-over par, while Farah tied for 16th at 14-over par.
