WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Seniors Samson Colebrooke and Jah Strange of the Purdue track & field team have been named the season's first Big Ten Men's Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.

Colebrooke earned his second career track athlete of the week honor, after he was recognized during the 2019 outdoor season. The Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week is the first of Strange's Boilermaker career.

The men's indoor accolades are the first for a Boilermaker since Purdue collected seven field athlete of the weeks in 2016 and one track weekly award in 2015.

A native of Exuma, Bahamas, Colebrooke opened the 2019-20 indoor season with a victory in the 60-meter dash at the Fred Wilt Open on Saturday. He won the finals with a time of 6.72, the second-fastest time in the nation and the fastest in the Big Ten to date this year. Colebrooke earned a berth in the finals after he placed first in the prelims with a 6.75. He also competed in the 4x400 relay and ran second as the Boilermakers notched a 3.24.89.

Along with his two career athlete of the week awards, Colebrooke was a 2019 Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree and named to the 2019 All-Big Ten Men's Outdoor Track & Field First Team

Strange opened the indoor season with a pair of runner-up finishes at the Fred Wilt Open, thanks to a 6.93m in the men's long jump and a 15.92m in the triple jump. His triple jump mark is the second-longest in the nation and the best in the Big Ten this season. Additionally, Strange ran in the 60-meter dash prelims and notched a time of 6.95, the fourth-fastest at the meet and tied for fourth-fastest among Big Ten runners this year.

From Indio, California, Strange was a 2019 Academic All-Big Ten honoree.

As a team, Purdue opened the 2019-20 indoor season with 10 victories at the Fred Wilt Open at Lambert Fieldhouse on Dec. 7. Four of the Boilermakers' 10 victories came from freshmen and three from sophomores. Additionally, three personal-best marks were set by returning student-athletes. While competing against Calumet College of St. Joseph, Northern Illinois, Northern Colorado and Tennessee State, seven of Purdue's 10 wins also came with a second-place finish.

Colebrooke, Strange and the Boilermakers return to action when they host the Gene Edmonds Memorial Invitational from January 10-11, at Lambert Fieldhouse. The two-day event will be the last home meet of the 2019-20 campaign.
