WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.
– Trent Pellini won the 100 breaststroke with the top time in the country so far this season and Mallory Jump eclipsed a team freshman record for the second night in a row, headlining the Boilermakers' Friday accomplishments at the Purdue Invitational.

Pellini out dueled Louisville's breaststroke standout Evgenii Somov to win the event. Pellini posted a time of 51.81, which was just .05 hundredths of a second off his program-record mark from the 2019 Big Ten Championships. Pellini also won the 200 individual medley Thursday.

Jump finished among the top five in the A finals of both the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly. She eclipsed teammate Tessa Wrightson's freshman record in the 100 back with a time of 54.35 that moved her into fifth place in program history. Jump was just .01 hundredth of a second from matching the program's freshman mark in the prelims of the 100 fly. She took fourth in the A final and now ranks sixth in program history.

Jump and Pellini also helped both of Purdue's top 200 medley relay teams register the sixth-fastest times in program history. Jump swam the backstroke leg, joining forces with Jinq En Phee, Lindsay Turner and Jade Knueppel. Pellini swam the butterfly leg, teaming up with Michael Juengel, Nick Sherman and Ryan Hrsoik.

Kendra Bowen (3rd in 200 free), Brett Riley (3rd in 400 IM) and Juengel (3rd in 100 back) all placed third in an A final. Bowen moved into 12th place in program history and has now accounted for team season-best times in the 50, 200 and 500 free this weekend. Riley moved into 10th place in the team record book and Juengel is now sixth at the midpoint of his freshman season.

Nikola Bjelajac won both of his heats of the 200 freestyle, taking his prelim heat from lane 8 and the B final from lane 1.

The Purdue Invitational concludes Saturday with prelims at 10 a.m. ET and finals at 6 p.m.
