Historic Season Continues for XC

The men's cross country team will run at the NCAA Championships on Saturday at 12:15 p.m. ET

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue men's cross country team is set to run in the 2019 NCAA Championships on Saturday, Nov. 23. The meet is set to take place at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute.
 
The men's race will begin at 12:15 p.m. ET and will be available to watch live on FloTrack with the purchase of a subscription.
 
In one of the strongest seasons in program history, the men are set to enter the championship ranked No. 10 in USTFCCCA national polls – rising seven spots following the program's Great Lakes Region title. Additionally, the Boilermakers are entering their 14th NCAA Championship appearance and the second consecutive since the back-to-back appearances in the 1985-86.
 
The NCAA Great Lakes Regional title was the first in program history. The team registered 79 points and was the only team to secure its five fastest runners in the top-25. Purdue was led by Jaret Carpenter, who placed fifth with a time of 30:15.3.
 
Rounding out the top-three was Brody Smith and Curt Eckstein. During the race Smith was checking in as high as third and ended with a 13th-place finish with a time of 30:38.2. Meanwhile, Eckstein crossed the finish line in 16th-place with a time of 30:44.6.
 
On their heels were teammates Tyler Bowling and Bailey McIntire, who secured 21st (30:49.4) and 24th-place (30:53.1), respectively. Rounding out the Purdue runners were Kyle Griffith and Blake Selm, Griffith tallied 37th-place (31:18.2), while Selm took 76th-place (32:16.2).
 
The 2019 men's cross country season includes the highest USTFCCCA poll ranking in program history, its first NCAA Great Lakes Regional title in program history as well as the first Earle Hayes Award Great Lakes Region Men's Coach of the Year honor, which head coach Norbert Elliott received.
