WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center serves as the site of a multi-day fall invite for the ninth time since opening in 2001 as 12 total teams representing eight universities are set to visit campus for Purdue swimming's marquee meet of the fall semester.

Traditionally a three-day, six-session meet, this year's edition of the Purdue Invitational will feature a bonus session on Sunday morning in which swimmers will have the option to compete in long course time trials for Olympic Trials cuts. Prelims begin daily at 10 a.m. Finals sessions are set for 6 p.m. Admission is free for all sessions of the meet.

The Boilermakers also hosted the Purdue Invitational in November of 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2015 and 2017. Louisville (2012), Navy (2017) and FIU (2017) are all competing at the meet for the second time this decade. Purdue's divers opted to compete at IUPUI's House of Champions Invitational this weekend. The IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI will also be hosting the men's NCAA Championships and U.S. Olympic Team Trials for diving in 2020. Divers from Louisville and Navy also will not be in attendance at the Purdue Invitational.

The Boilermakers have won the Purdue Invitational seven times – four times by the men and three times by the women. The 2015 Purdue Invite marked the only time in which the Boilermakers swept the team titles. Even without the divers in attendance, the Purdue men won the seven-team Hawkeye Invitational in November of last season. It was the program's first victory at a multi-day invitational meet on the road since November 2001 at Northwestern.

There could be as many as 38 countries represented at the Purdue Invitational this year. Grand Canyon, FIU, Louisville, Purdue and Pitt all have student-athletes from at least 10 different countries.

NAVY SENIORS HONORED AS SERVICE ASSIGNMENTS ANNOUNCED ON THURSDAY
The opening day of the Purdue Invitational on Thursday coincides with the annual service assignments announcement day at the Naval Academy. Navy's seniors in attendance at the Purdue Invite will be recognized as part of a ceremony at the pool following Thursday's prelims session. As their teammates did at the 2017 Purdue Invitational, Navy's seniors will stand on the bulkhead in the middle of the pool and learn their assignments in real time as battalion officer Chris "Blackjack" Bailey from Navy's staff announces the assignments on the pool PA system.

WELCOME BACK
Among the notable Boilermakers returning for the Purdue Invitational include All-American Caitlin Hamilton and longtime public address announcer Andy Ross.
A Bloomington-Normal native and swimmer at Purdue from 2010 to 2013, Hamilton was hired as the head coach at Illinois State in May. She broke program records in all three distance freestyle events and finished top eight in the mile when the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center served as the host pool of the NCAA Championships in 2010. She was also an honorable mention All-American in the 500 and 1,650 free the following year.
The youngest of Dan and Sally Ross's three sons, Andy Ross grew up around the program and announced his first Purdue meet in 2008 at the age of 13. He swam at Southern Illinois, competing at the 2015 Purdue Invitational and graduating in 2017. He returns to his PA seat for the 2017 Purdue Invitational and is back in town again this week, flying up from his home in South Florida where he works as a writer and jack of all trades for Swimming World and the International Swimming Hall of Fame. Ross helped make the on-deck atmosphere at the 2017 Purdue Invitational one of the most memorable parts of a meet that also featured world champions Caeleb Dressel and Lilly King.
