Divers Sweep Weekly Honors as Purdue Wins 3 More

For the second week in a row, Purdue swimming & diving earned a trio of honors from the Big Ten Conference office, highlighted by a sweep of the Diver of the Week awards.

ROSEMONT, Ill. – For the second week in a row, Purdue swimming & diving earned a trio of honors from the Big Ten Conference office, highlighted by a sweep of the Diver of the Week awards.

Emily Bretscher and Greg Duncan were recognized as the Big Ten Divers of the Week after they swept the springboard events in last Friday's dual meet vs. nationally ranked Notre Dame. Duncan was selected for the second week in a row, becoming the first Boilermaker since Steele Johnson in October 2017 to win the award after each of Purdue's first two weekends of competition.

Claire Abbasse was honored as the women's Big Ten Freshman of the Week. She was a co-winner of the 100 freestyle (with teammate Megan Johnson) and also contributed to Purdue's victorious 400 freestyle relay vs. Notre Dame.

Last week, Mallory Jump and Keelan Hart were recognized to give the Boilermakers a sweep of the Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors.

The Big Ten added Freshman of the Week to its weekly awards program for swimming & diving in December 2011. Abbasse and Jump are the first pair of Purdue women to both win the award in the same season. Meagan Lim did win the award in consecutive weeks in January 2014, marking the only time the Purdue women have claimed consecutive Freshman of the Week accolades.

Bretscher and Duncan both claimed their third career Big Ten Diver of the Week awards. They also teamed up for a sweep of the honors in January of last season. However, a second weekly sweep puts them in exclusive company. They're only the fifth duo of Boilermaker divers to accomplish the feat. The other eight divers on the list are also All-Americans, headlined by Purdue Hall of Famers David Boudia and Carrie McCambridge.

Bretscher's winning scores (301.13 on 1-meter, 353.10 on 3-meter) are believed to be the best in the Big Ten this season. Duncan also posted a pair of high-scoring lists (375.15 on 1-meter, 404.63 on 3-meter), marks that are believed to be second best in the league early this year.

Duncan was victorious on 1-meter by 57 points and on 3-meter by 60 points. Bretscher won on 3-meter by 40 points.

Purdue is back in action Friday, Nov. 8 for an 11 a.m. ET co-ed dual at nationally ranked Tennessee.
