FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Two first-place and 12 top five finishes were recorded by the Purdue track & field program Saturday on the second day of the Razorback Invitational. The meet featured the nation's top programs, including 50 percent of the women's teams among the nation's top 10 and four on the men's side.

Two Boilermakers brought down one Purdue record, while two of the nation's top marks were shattered.

In the fastest 3,000-meter run in the nation this year and fastest ever completed by Boilermakers, Jaret Carpenter and Brody Smith broke the Purdue record, while Curt Eckstein also became the fourth-fastest Boilermaker in the event in program history. A new banner will be hung for Carpenter, who shattered his previous best by six seconds to clock in at 8:00.67. Smith's time of 8:02.15 also sent the previous five-year-old record of 8:03.70 aflame (Matthew McClintock) in his first 3,000-meter race as a Boilermaker.

Additionally, Eckstein carved off an impressive 13.18 seconds off his PR in the event to time in at 8:04.09. As a whole, the race obliterated the nation's top times in the event with Carpenter who finished third, and Smith who finished fifth, eclipsing the nation's best time heading into the day.

Earning first-place in their events was Brian Faust (400-meter dash) and Susan Hubbard (one mile run). Faust secured the victory with a time of 47.18, which clocks in as a personal-best and the No. 18 fastest time in the nation this season. The Atlanta, Georgia native previously held the 30th-fastest spot at 47.49 which he ran a week ago.

Hubbard marked a personal-best with a time of 4:52.52. The senior won after leading for virtually the entire race.

Fellow distance runner and Purdue 5,000-meter record-holder Emma Benner became the first Boilermaker to make the Purdue women's 3,000-meter top-10 list in four years after clocking in at 9:29.28. The time stands as the fourth-best in program history and placed her seventh in the event standings.

In the men's 4x400-meter relay, the team surpassed the nation's best time and recorded the third-fastest time in program history with a finish of 3:01.81 and third place. The time also shattered the best time in the Big Ten this season by seven seconds. Altogether, the men cut over nine seconds off their season's best time.

The women's 4x400-meter relay took first in their event and fourth overall, secured with a pass by Samara Miller in the final lap for a time of 3:38.51. The relay produced the best time in the Big Ten after dropping two seconds from their previous meet.

Freshman Isaiah Martin inked his name in the Purdue performance record books, as well. Martin's 5,249 points in the heptathlon marks the third-most in program history, and he set personal records in five of the seven events to earn it.

Over the two-day meet, Purdue acquired 24 top-11 finishes, including 13 top 5 and nine in the top 3.
