• Red Cross Hurricane Dorian Relief Fund
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue Athletics encourages fans attending the football game Saturday night to bring items to donate to those in the Bahamas affected by Hurricane Dorian.
There will be five drop-off locations: Gate B, Gate T2, Ross-Ade Pavilion entrance, Boilermaker Crossing at Weist Plaza and the north end of the stadium along Joe Tiller Drive.
Those items most needed:
Baby formula
Baby food
Bug Spray
Canned goods
Cereal
Disinfectant
First aid kits
Flashlights
Large plastic trash bags
Lysol
Non-perishable dry goods
Pillows
Sheet sets
Towels
Water
Wet wipes
Used clothes cannot be accepted.
All collected items will be transported to Florida via the Purdue football equipment trailer, provided by longtime Boilermaker supporter Mike Bloom, and subsequently sent on to the Bahamas.
The Boilermaker Student-Athlete Advisory Committee helped to organize the event and will have representatives located at the drop-off points for assistance.
"This Saturday, not only is it our goal to create memorable moments for fans and to win a big football game, but also to help those who have been impacted and devastated by Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas," said Peyton Stovall, assistant athletics director for student-athlete development and member of the SAAC advisory board. "This community prides itself on encouraging thy neighbor and helping those who are in need. The atmosphere for the game will be electric. That energy, combined with the mission to support the relief efforts in the Bahamas, certainly will make it a special night at Ross-Ade Stadium."
Fans wishing to donate cash may do so via the American Red Cross website.
Purdue has three track & field athletes from the Bahamas: senior Samson Colebrooke (Exuma), junior Tamar Greene (Nassau) and freshman Vinajah Adderley (Nassau). In addition, head coach Norbert Elliott was born and grew up in Nassau, and several alums that competed at Purdue are Bahamian residents.
Kickoff between Purdue and TCU is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
