Decathlon Score Sheet | Full Day Two Results
AUSTIN, Texas – Freshman standout Isaiah Martin represented the Purdue track & field program at the NCAA Championships on Thursday, closing the men's decathlon with a score of 7,398 points. The Boilermaker, who entered the meet with the 16th-best mark among the nation's top decathletes, placed 10th to earn second-team All-America honors.
Despite spending 11 hours at the track Thursday following two separate weather delays, Martin's mark was the second-best among freshman decathletes and fourth among all underclassmen. Moreover, Martin's honor marks just the second time a Boilermaker has earned All-America honors since 1998.
Over the two-day event, the Hillsboro, Missouri, native collected four personal-bests, including three on day one and another in his final opportunity – the 1,500-meter run. Martin was timed at 4:36.27 in the event, which also doubled as his best finish of the meet (fourth-place).
In addition to the race, Martin's performances were highlighted by three more top 10 finishes. Martin tallied a fifth-place finish in the long jump (7.26 meters) and eighth-place in the 400m dash (49.12 seconds) on the first day before adding a sixth-place finish in the javelin throw (56.70 meters) the next day.
