IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Purdue men's track & field team had an explosive final day at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships to produce the most points since 2003 on its way to third place.
The men's team scored 96 points, led by Tamar Greene, who placed first in two events. Meanwhile, the women's team, fueled by a 4x400-meter relay victory in the final event, placed ninth with 39 points.
Between the men's and women's team, six top-3 finishes were earned on the final day of competition.
One day was all it took for Tamar Greene to stand atop the podium not once, but twice. Within 10 minutes, Greene went from winning the men's triple jump (16.15-meters) to serving as the first leg on the winning men's 4x100-meter relay team. Greene walked away from Francis X. Cretzmeyer Track with the first two rings of his outdoor career and contributing 20 of Purdue's 96 points.
Greene was joined on the triple jump podium by Jah Strange, who secured the third-farthest jump (15.94). It marked Strange's second bronze medal in as many days, after taking third in the long jump Saturday.
The women's 4x400-meter relay team brought about an exciting finale to the meet. After entering the race ranked first in the Big Ten, the relay team of Myia Dorsey, Brittney Campbell, Kyelah Hodges and Samara Miller defended the Purdue title from a year ago. The team, which entered with the fastest time in the conference, was originally scheduled to run Campbell, Dorsey, Miller and Camille Cristopher, however after Christopher sustained an injury during the women's 4x100-meter relay in which it placed second, Hodges ran the leg. With Hodges, the squad sprinted to a 3:36.63 finish, winning by a sizable margin of almost a full second.
The victorious men's 4x100-meter relay included Greene, Samson Colebrooke, Justin Becker and Waseem Williams. It marked just the third time Purdue has won the event in Big Ten history and the first time in 16 years. Their time of 39.39 set a facility record, tied a season-best and the No. 2 time in program history. It is an improvement of 0.21 seconds over Purdue's time a year ago.
Additionally, the women's 4x100-meter relay team of Autumn Heath, Dorsey, Sekayi Bracey and Christopher recorded second-place. With their time of 44.76, the Boilermakers tallied a top 2 finish for the fourth-consecutive year.
Williams rounded out Sunday's medals. The junior placed third in the 100-meter dash, timed at 10.20 seconds. Colebrooke finished just behind Williams, taking fourth place in 10.29 seconds and Becker, a freshman, setting a personal-best with 10.53 seconds for eighth place. Colebrooke and Williams also raced the 200-meter dash, where they went fourth and fifth, respectively.

The top 48 student-athletes in individual events (exception: heptathlon and decathlon) and the top 24 relay teams in the east region will qualify for the meet in Jacksonville.
