IOWA CITY, Iowa – Rain, wind and slick conditions did not stop the Boilermakers from producing 25 men's points and nine women's on the second day of the Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Leading the way was shot put thrower Jalil Brewer, who produced Purdue's first championship title in the event since 2008.

Overall, the Purdue men are tied for fourth-place with Minnesota after tallying 36 points. While nine events have been scored in the men's championships, the Boilermakers have earned points in all but one event they have competed in.

Jaden Mattox led the women's efforts on day two, notching a second-place finish on a personal-best of 6.18-meters. In a tight battle for first-place, the medaling was decided by two centimeters – after the two leaders registered an identical top mark, officials looked to their next-best jump, which was also tied. The two centimeters difference was found on the third tie-breaker to decide Mattox's placing and her first Big Ten honor.

In addition to Brewer, scoring points Saturday for the men's team were Jah Strange finishing third in the long jump (7.38-meters), Isaiah Martin placing fourth in the decathlon (7,346 points) and Brody Smith earning fifth-place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (8:58.02).

Brewer's gold medal was earned on a personal-best of 20.25-meters in the shot put. Throwing the No. 8 mark in the nation on his second attempt, he bested his PR by a meter. In fact, three of Brewer's throws surpassed his personal-record heading into the day. Rising to become the third-best shot put thrower in program history, Brewer also became just the eighth Boilermaker to ever win the Big Ten event.

In the day's qualifying rounds, the men will send a meet-leading three Boilermakers to the 100-meter finals: defending champion Waseem Williams earned the fastest preliminary time (10.29), while Samson Colebrooke secured the third-fastest (10.44) and Justin Becker took the final qualifying slot (10.64). The women's team also added two finalists to the 100-meter dash with Camille Christopher and Autumn Heath coming in fifth- and seventh-place respectively.
The women produced a total of five qualifying times for the final day, while the men earned six.
