NORMAN, Okla. -
The Purdue women's golf team got off to a solid start at the NCAA Normal Regional on Monday, shooting one-over 289 in the first round and sitting in seventh place at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club. Junior Micaela Farah was one-of-three Boilermakers to finish under par Monday, posting a two-under 70 and is tied for sixth place on the individual leaderboard.

The Boilermakers made the most birdies of any team in the first round of play, sinking 17 led by six from Farah. She dropped three on each side of the course but minimized the damage on the back nine where she finished two-under and secured 12th round of par or better this season and her first round under par since Feb. 5.

Both senior Ida Ayu Indira Melati Putri and freshman Danielle du Toit came in under par, posting matching scores of one-under 71. They both did the bulk of the work on the front nine as Putri sank four birdies and shot three under, while Du Toit made four birdies of her own and shot two under. Putri made birdie on three of her first four, while making bogey on No. 2, and capped the front with a birdie on No. 9. She pushed all the way to four-under par with a birdie on No. 11, but struggled on No. 12 and No. 13 before making par the rest of the way in. Du Toit was three-under par through eight but couldn't go any lower, still increasing her Purdue freshman record for rounds of par or better to 15 in 2018-19.

Purdue's final two scores belonged to sophomore Inez Wanamarta and freshman RuQing Guan, which shot 77 and 79, respectively. Guan had a rough start and finish but leveled off after five holes and shot two-under par between No. 6 and No. 15.

No. 3 seed Florida holds the team lead after 18 holes at four-under 284, leading No. 13 seed North Carolina State by just one stroke. Four teams are tied for third place at one-under par, including top-seeded Texas, just two strokes ahead of the Boilermakers, while No. 2 seed Wake Forest and No. 4 seed Arizona State are one stroke behind Purdue, leaving just a three-stroke separation between third and ninth in the team standings. Michaela Fletcher of Memphis made the most of her individual regional bid on Day 1, shooting four-under par, 68, to lead the day.

Play resumes tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. ET as the Boilermakers will be paired with the Demon Deacons and Sun Devils going off No. 1.
