Colebrooke Climbs to B1G Athlete of the Week

In one day, Colebrooke ran his way to three first-place finishes, three Purdue record book-worthy times and three of the nation's top 22 marks.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – After an impressive weekend at the Jim Click Shootout, Samson Colebrooke of the Purdue track & field team was awarded Big Ten Men's Track Athlete of the Week, announced by the conference office. In one day, Colebrooke ran his way to three first-place finishes, three Purdue record book-worthy times and three of the nation's top 22 marks.

With individual victories in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash, Colebrooke ran the week's fastest times in the Big Ten. Clocking in at 10.19 seconds in the 100-meter dash, Colebrooke shaved off an entire 0.27 seconds to check in at No. 2 in the B1G and No. 11 in the nation this season. However the junior did not stop there; Colebrooke also entered the Purdue record books, registering as the third-fastest sprinter in program history in the event and became the 10th athlete in Bahamian history to run under 10.20 seconds.

Additionally, Colebrooke carved his name in the Purdue 200m dash top performance list as well, placing seventh in Boilermaker history. His first-place finish in the event was fueled by a time of 20.74 seconds, which is good for No. 22 in the nation.

Colebrooke tallied another victory in the 4x100-meter relay team. As a member of the relay team, Colebrooke helped record the week's fastest time in the nation and eighth-fastest time in 2019. The performance by the Exuma, Bahamas, native paved the way to Purdue's second-fastest time in program history (39.39 seconds), which was just one one-hundredth of a second shy of tying the Purdue record.

Colebrooke rounded out the meet with a third-place finish as a member of the 4x400m relay team, which was timed at 3:12.09.

The Big Ten honor is the second men's weekly award of the season, marking the first time since 2008 that two Boilermakers received the track award in a single season. Colebrooke joins 100-meter Purdue record-holder Waseem Williams (3/20) and Gabrielle Broschard (3/27) as the Boilermakers honored in 2019.
