WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The coast is calling as the Purdue track & field program is set to split for the weekend, having Boilermakers entered in the Florida Relays and the Stanford Invite. The prestigious meets will run Thursday through Sunday in Gainesville, Florida, while a handful of distance runners will take the track on Friday in Stanford, California.

The opening day of the Florida Relays will see Boilermakers in three events: the men's and women's 200-meter, beginning at 2 p.m. ET followed by the men's javelin at 7 p.m. ET. Purdue is set to compete throughout the day on Friday, beginning at 11:30 a.m. with the women's discus and 11 a.m. on Saturday with the women's hammer throw.

At Stanford, five Boilermakers will be split across the 5,000-meter run, 10,000-meter run and the 3,000-meter steeplechase. The 5k is slated for a 2:30 p.m. ET start on Friday, with Purdue's remaining races taking place later that evening.

In Gainesville, freshmen and juniors will lead the team with eight attendees a piece. Among them is Waseem Williams, the fastest 100-meter sprinter in Purdue history. The junior was named Big Ten Men's Track Athlete of the Week on March 20th, following two victories and conference-leading times in the 100 and 200-meter dash. Currently, Williams ranks No. 26 in the nation with his 10.41 second sprint in the 100-meter.

A year ago, the team of Sekayi Bracey, Myia Dorsey, Kyelah Hodges and Samara Miller led Purdue to a second-place finish in the sprint medley relay, earning a time of 3:51.96. While all four will be racing this weekend, only Hodges and Miller are returning to improve on their finish in the event.

Distance runners Emma Benner, Curt Eckstein, Jenna Halderman and Jaret Carpenter will be competing in their first outdoor meet of the season. Meanwhile Brody Smith already owns a victory this outdoor season, having placed first in the UTSA Invite's 2,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 5:51.61.

The SEC Network + (via Watch ESPN) will broadcast live coverage of the Florida Relays during parts of Friday's and Saturday's collegiate/post-collegiate competition.

In 2018, Brionna Thomas broke the program's 400-meter dash record with a time of 51.72 seconds at Florida, while the women's 4x200-meter relay team posted the top collegiate time, finishing with a time of 1:32.28.
