THE TALKING POINTS
1) Purdue won its 24th Big Ten Championship on Saturday with a 70-57 victory over Northwestern. The Boilermakers shared the title with Michigan State, both owning a 16-4 league record. Purdue has won two titles in the last three seasons, winning an outright crown in 2017.
2) Purdue owns 16 combined quadrant-1 and quadrant-2 victories, the second most in the country behind Michigan (17). Purdue is 9-0 against quadrant-2 teams, one of four teams nationally that are 9-0 or better against quadrant-2 teams (Purdue, Michigan, Houston, Texas Tech).
3) Matt Painter won his fourth Big Ten Coach of the Year honor on Monday, now ranking tied for third for the most COY honors in league history (Gene Keady - 7; Bob Knight - 5; Bo Ryan - 4). Purdue has won 11 of the last 36 Big Ten Coach of the Year honors.
4) Over the last six games, Purdue has held its opponents to 59.2 points per game, 36.0 percent shooting and 28.4 percent from 3-point range.
5) Purdue's 45 Big Ten wins over the last three seasons are the third most for any program in league history.
6) Purdue has led the Big Ten in 3-point percentage for three straight years, the first team in league history to do that.
7) Since Jan. 1, Purdue is ranked fourth in the KenPom rankings, ranking third offensively and 16th defensively in that span. In the first two months of the season (through Dec. 31), Purdue was ranked 29th overall and was seventh offensively and 102nd defensively.
8) Purdue's seniors (Ryan Cline and Grady Eifert) now own a 106-32 (.768) career record, the second-most wins for a class in school history. The .766 winning percentage is third-best percentage in school history (1996 - .778; 1988 - .774).
9) Purdue has outrebounded five straight opponents by a combined 52 rebounds (10.4 per game), including 68-40 on the offensive class.
10) Carsen Edwards became the third Boilermaker in the last nine years to lead the Big Ten in scoring. JaJuan Johnson in 2011 (20.7) and Caleb Swanigan in 2017 (18.9) are the others. No other team has had more than one player lead the league in scoring in that span.
11) Matt Haarms became the first player to lead the Big Ten in field goal percentage and blocks since Ohio State's Greg Oden in 2007.
