Tiger Paw Results | Iowa State Classic Results
CLEMSON, S.C. – A Boilermaker track & field team split across two meets produced not one, but two brand new Purdue records. Jaret Carpenter and Brian Faust, who each set program bests earlier this season, tapped into that magic once again at the Iowa State Classic and the Tiger Paw, respectively.
Faust, who already holds the Purdue 500-meter record, was dubbed king of the men's 400-meter dash. Carpenter broke his own 5,000-meter run record nearly one year to the day from when he set it the first time. Carpenter's record was shattered by over six seconds for a time of 13:43.14, while Faust broke the 18-year old 400-meter time in 46.70 seconds.
Two additional distance runners also earned their place in the Purdue record books with their 5,000-meter runs. Curt Eckstein improved upon his personal-best set a year ago, burning off 17 seconds to move from No. 10 to No. 4 in Boilermaker history with a time of 14:04.86. Also entering the Boilermakers top 10 list for the first time in her career is Jenna Halderman. The senior secured No. 10 in Purdue history after clocking in at 16:34.94.
In Clemson, Samson Colebrooke set a new 60-meter dash PR not once, but twice in the same day. Colebrooke tied as the third fastest Boilermaker in Purdue track & field history with 6.66 seconds in the prelims, then topped it in the finals with 6.65 seconds to outright take the No. 3 spot . The junior's time ties the 19th-fastest in the nation and earned him sixth-place in the race.
All three freshmen competing in the men's 60-meter hurdles advanced out of the qualifying rounds. Blanchard Montgomery IV, Isaiah Martin and Dainon Wray each made the first cut with times of 8.13, 8.22 and 8.29, respectively. On the women's side, senior Autumn Heath secured her place in the prelims with her time of 7.53, knocking .06 seconds off her season-best.
Sophomore Jalil Brewer's top throw of the day came in at 17.55m/57-7.00 in the men's shot put. In the Big Ten, Brewer currently ranks third among sophomore throwers and ninth overall.
Jaden Mattox was the top Boilermaker in the women's long jump, coming in ninth with her distance of 6.01m/19-8.75.
The Boilermakers will conclude the Tiger Paw and Iowa State Classic tomorrow. The Tiger Paw will begin at 9:30 a.m. ET with the men's weight throw while Purdue will begin racing at the Iowa State Classic at 1:25 p.m. ET.
