Day Two Results
ORLANDO, Fla. - Behind standout rounds from senior Ida Ayu Indira Melati Putri and junior Micaela Farah the 25th-ranked Purdue women's golf jumped three spots on the leaderboard to fifth place after two days at the UCF Challenge, hosted by the Knights at Eagle Creek Golf Club. The Boilermakers shot five-under 283 as a team, marking their second straight day under par, and are tied with No. 10 Kent State, sitting nine strokes off the lead going into the final round.
Both Putri and Farah shot three-under 69 in the second round as Putri made four birdies, including a stellar mark of three under on the front nine, while Farah sank five birdies, including two of her last three holes. Putri finished her first nine holes even par, making birdie on No. 13, but giving the stroke back on No. 15. She rallied as she returned to the front, sinking back-to-back birdies on Nos. 2 and 3 and coming in under par on her final hole to move to one under for the tournament and tie for 22nd in the individual standings.
Farah made bogey on her second hole (No. 8), but surged back with birdies on No. 10, No. 13 and No. 18. She dropped back to one under with a bogey on No. 2 but capitalized on No. 4 and No. 6 to finish the day at six-under par for the tournament and tied for fourth place, three strokes shy of the individual leader.
Freshman Danielle du Toit shot a one-under 71 for the second straight day, hitting three birdies on the round to move to two-under par for the tournament and tie for 16th place, while senior Covadonga SanJuan turned in the fourth and final team score at two-over 74.
No. 6 Vanderbilt took over the team lead with a second-round score of 11-under par, sitting at 16 under for the tournament and holding a one-stroke lead on Miami, which shot seven-under par Monday. Miami's Anna Backman holds the individual lead at nine-under par, shooting seven-under 65 Monday and holding a one-stroke lead over Vanderbilt's Auston Kim, the younger sister of Boilermaker alumna August Kim.
The Boilermakers open the final round tomorrow (Tuesday) at 8:45 a.m. ET, starting on holes No. 3-6 with Michigan State and Kent State.
