KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Purdue men's golf team pieced together its best round of the week, but couldn't make up any ground, finishing ninth at the NCAA Regionals, ending the Boilermakers' season.

Purdue fired a 54-hole total of 11-under par 853 (288-285-280) to finish nine shots behind fifth-place Kent State (-20), the Kissimmee Region's final qualifier. The four other teams advancing are Florida (-42), the host school UCF (-30), Vanderbilt (-22) and North Carolina (-21). Arizona (-18), Colorado State (-16) and South Florida (-12) rounded out the top eight.

Purdue had advanced to the previous two NCAA Championships and was looking for its 30th trip to college golf's biggest stage all-time.

Freshman Jason Hong led the Boilermakers with a 23rd-place finish at 3-under par 213 (73-70-70). Classmate Cole Bradley (75-70-70=215), Brian Carlson (71-72-72=215) and Jarle Volden (69-73-73=215) all finished tied for 32nd, while Timmy Hildebrand was tied for 51st at 3-over par 219 (75-76-68).

COACH BRADLEY QUOTABLE
"We obviously didn't want the season to end at Regionals, but I'm really proud of the guys to continuing to fight and having their best round of the tournament today. We just dug too deep of a hole the first two days."

"I'm really proud of the season we had. We had two great academic semesters and we improved significantly as a team from day one. We showed we can compete with anyone, but we just struggled some the last two events. I am already looking forward to next year. We had three freshmen that showed a lot of promise and Jarle and Timmy will be outstanding senior leaders."

"We were so lucky to have Brian as part of this team and he had an one of the best seasons in school history. He gave us everything he had and we are going to miss him. We wish him the best as he moves on to the professional ranks."

CARLSON WRAPS UP IMPRESSIVE CAREER
Brian Carlson didn't have his best stuff at NCAA Regionals, but he left quite a mark on the Purdue golf record book. Consider the following as the numbers speak for themselves:
• Season-stroke average of 71.66 (2nd).
• Counting score in 33 of 35 rounds.
• Four top-five finishes in 12 events.
• Six top-10 finishes in 12 events (4th).
• Nine top-20 finishes (2nd).
• Eight rounds in the 60s (3rd)
• 21 of 35 rounds of even par or better (2nd)
• 32 rounds of 75 or better (3rd)
• 122 birdies (3rd)
• 73.24 career stroke average (2nd)
• 14 career top-10 finishes (5th)

SOMETHING TO BUILD ON
Freshmen Jason Hong and Cole Bradley posted strong scores over the final two rounds to show a glimpse of the future for the Boilermakers. The duo both shot identical 70s in each of the final two rounds. Yesterday, the pair was the first freshman duo to shoot 70 better in the same round in NCAA action. In today's round, the pair became the first duo to shoot 70 or better twice in any NCAA round in school history. They also became the first Purdue players to shoot 70 or better in two NCAA rounds since Shiv Kapur finished 10th during the 2004 NCAA Championships (72-68-70-72). In fact, only Shiv Kapur (2004), Lee Williamson (2002) and Rick Dalpos (1981) had done so previously. Coupled with Joe Weiler, who averaged 74.58 strokes per 18 holes over 26 rounds, the future is very bright for the Boilermakers.
