WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Brandon Loschiavo's runaway victory in platform diving helped the Big Ten emerge victorious in a tight battle in the men's team scoring, leading to a sweep for the conference in the inaugural ACC/Big Ten Swimming & Diving Challenge at Purdue's Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center.

The Big Ten men entered Sunday with a three-point lead and were victorious in seven of the 10 events on day 2 of the all-star meet, winning by a final margin of 179-174.

The Big Ten women dominated their half of the dual, winning eight events Sunday and 16 of the 19 over the two sessions. They were victorious over the ACC 251-102. The Big Ten women had at least the top two finishers in five events Sunday.

Loschiavo won by 80 points in his first platform competition of the season, finishing with an impressive list score of 508.85 that ranks as the best in the nation this year. The 2018 Big Ten platform champ is one of only three Boilermakers in program history to exceed 500 points in the event, an elite list that also includes Olympic medalists David Boudia and Steele Johnson.

There were a combined 25 national season-best times/scores posted in individual events at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Big Ten accounted for 20 of those marks.

Jinq En Phee helped the Big Ten women register a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 breaststroke. She posted a Purdue season-best time of 59.93, good for sixth nationally this season. Phee is one of just two Boilermakers to eclipse one minute in the event. Sunday marked the first time she had accomplished that feat in a regular-season meet.

Nick McDowell posted a career-best time of 9:07.21 in the 1,000 freestyle, improving on his third-fastest time in program history.

Taite Kitchel posted an NCAA B Cut in the 200 butterfly, a Purdue season-best time of 1:58.74.

Morgan Meixner placed sixth in 3-meter diving with a personal season-best score of 296.60. There were 12 divers entered in each event at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Boilermakers posted four top-six finishes in the diving well.

Loschiavo's victory on the tower came at a key point in the meet. The Big Ten men's eight consecutive event victories from the end of Saturday's session through the start of Sunday's session was ultimately a big reason why they emerged victorious. But the ACC didn't go quietly Sunday, posting a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 IM, which was the final individual swimming event of the meet. The ACC also won the 400 free relay to close the meet. A victory in the 50 free by Minnesota's Bowen Becker was also a key moment Sunday. That was the penultimate individual swimming event and it prevented the ACC, which had the 2-3-4 finishers, from making up any additional ground.

Loschiavo averaged 84.8 points per round and earned awards over 90 points in rounds 2 and 5.

Joe Young and Trent Pellini competed in both individual events and relays. Young was seventh in the seventh in the 100 back (48.25) and Pellini placed seventh in the 100 breast (55.08). Pellini also posted a season-best time 100 split (45.28) on the opening leg of the 400 free relay. Young recorded a Purdue season best in the 100 back on the opening leg of the 400 medley relay Saturday.

The Boilermakers are slated to compete at three different invitational meets this week to conclude their fall semester schedules. The divers are headed to Austin for the Texas Diving Hall of Fame Invitational, which opens Wednesday. The women's swimmers travel to Bloomington for the Indiana Invitational and the men's swimmers visit Iowa City for the Hawkeye Invitational. Those meets are set for Thursday through Saturday.
