MEDINAH, Ill. - The Purdue women's golf team put together a historic afternoon Monday, carding the No. 2 and No. 3 all-time team scores in program history to shoot a combined 19-under par at the opening day of the inaugural Illini Women's Invitational. The Boilermakers opened with a round of 10-under 278, and backed it up with a nine-under 279, holding a six-shot lead going into the final round at Medinah Country Club.

The Purdue women's golf team put together a historic afternoon Monday, carding the No. 2 and No. 3 all-time team scores in program history to shoot a combined 19-under par at the opening day of the inaugural Illini Women's Invitational. The Boilermakers opened with a round of 10-under 278, and backed it up with a nine-under 279, holding a six-shot lead going into the final round at Medinah Country Club.
 
The day was built on two eagles, 31 birdies and 126 pars, as four of the five Purdue individuals set or tied career bests for 18 holes. Junior Micaela Farah led the day off with a scorching five-under 67, making three birdies and the Boilermakers' first eagle of the season. Farah found the cup from 151-yards out on the 358-yard ninth hole, her sixth hole of the day.
 
Purdue's second eagle of the day came shortly after as freshman Danielle du Toit cashed in from 145 yards out on No. 11, needing just two strokes to complete the 399-yard par 4. Senior Ida Ayu Indira Melati Putri matched her career best in the second round, dropping four birdies to log a four-under 68, while freshman RuQing Guan posted a collegiate-best, three-under 69 in the second round as well.

Sophomore Lauren Guiao had the best 36 holes of her young college career, tying her previous career best in the first round with a two-over 74, and making birdie on her final hole of the day to post her first round as a Boilermaker under par at one-under 71.
 
Putri is the top Boilermaker individual on the leaderboard, tied for second at seven-under par and one shot back from individual leader Michaela Finn of Kent State. Putri's nine birdies were tied with Guan for Purdue's most on the day as the Boilermaker senior went 69-68=137, her best collegiate 36-hole score. Both rounds came in under par for du Toit as the rookie picked up where she left off at the Windy City Collegiate Classic. She finished three-under 69 on the opening 18 and shot one-under 71 on the second, marking three straight for the Boilermaker rookie and good for 10th in the individual standings at four-under par.
 
Guan is tied for 15th after 36 holes, carding a one-over 73 in the opening round on her way to two-under par for the day, while Farah remains tied for 21st despite a tough second round.
 
The Boilermakers lead 13th-ranked Kent State by six strokes after the first day, besting the Golden Flashes by seven strokes in the second round, while tournament host Illinois is third at 11-under par.
 
The final round begins Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. ET as the Boilermakers will open the shotgun start on Holes No. 1-3 with Kent State and Illinois.
