WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.
– Eight Purdue pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts while surrendering just two hits and the Boilermakers scored in four of the first six innings to defeat Parkland College 9-0 in a fall exhibition game Saturday at Alexander Field.

Owen Jansen delivered a two-out, three-run double to cap Purdue's four-run bottom of the first. Cole McKenzie's second double of the day plated a pair in a three-run sixth inning. Jansen's gapper to right-center was a near carbon copy of his two-run double that was the difference in a 2-1 win vs. Michigan in the home finale at Alexander in May.

Skyler Hunter, Charlie Nasuti and McKenzie each finished with two hits. Ben Nisle delivered a two-out RBI single and Johnny Sage plated the game's first run with a sacrifice fly in the first inning.

Leadoff man Trevor Burkhart accounted for both of the Cobras' hits, including singling up the middle on the first pitch of the game. But Matt Moore and Patrick J. Smith teamed up to retire the next nine Parkland batters in order. Dalton Parker and Trent Johnson joined Moore and Smith as Boilermakers to work 1-2-3 innings in the victory. As the starter, Moore was the lone Purdue pitcher to work multiple innings.

Trevor Cheaney, Andrew Bohm, Parker and Smith each fanned a pair in their scoreless innings.

Bryce Bonner doubled over the left fielder's head to open the fourth inning and later scored on a throwing error by the Cobras' shortstop.

After his doubles in the second and sixth innings, McKenzie scored on singles by Nisle and Nasuti.

Parkland won 50 games and qualified for the championship round of the NJCAA Division II World Series last season.

The Boilermakers have two home games next weekend, hosting Ontario traveling team the Fieldhouse Pirates on Friday at 2 p.m. ET and Heartland College on Saturday at 1 p.m. All fall exhibition games at Alexander Field are open to the public.
