WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The 2018-19 Purdue track & field schedule was announced by head coach Norbert Elliott on Monday. Overall, Purdue will take part in seven indoor and 12 outdoor competitions, in addition to Big Ten and NCAA championships.
"As the 2018-19 track season rapidly approaches, we wanted to make sure we put together a schedule that is comprehensive and provides us the opportunity to test our skills, to challenge us as both individuals and as a team," said Elliott.
The schedule includes two home meets, which will take place at the recently renovated Lambert Fieldhouse: the Gene Edmonds Invite and Fred Wilt Open. The Gene Edmonds Invite has been a staple of the Purdue track & field meet schedule since the 2003-04 season while Fred Wilt has been hosted for six consecutive years. The meets are inked for Jan. 12th and Feb. 1-2, respectively.
"The Fred Wilt and Gene Edmonds Invites are a Purdue tradition at Purdue that we take pride in upholding. This year, competition will include IUPUI, Notre Dame, Northern Illinois, the University of the Bahamas and more," said Elliott. "We are looking forward to competing on our home turf and giving our fans a chance to see us in action."
The Boilermakers will kick-off the upcoming season on December 7 with the Hoosier Open in Bloomington, before hosting the Gene Edmonds Invite. "We also have the opportunity to meet up with some great competition this season at Iowa, Arkansas, Clemson," Elliott said.
Purdue's outdoor slate includes contests at the Florida Relays (March 28-30), the Jim Click Invite at Arizona (April 6), the Kansas Relays (April 18-20) and the Drake Relays (April 25-27).
The women's program returns from an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships for the best finish in program history by four spots. Additionally, the women earned second at the B1G outdoor championships. On the men's side, All-Americans Ashmon Lucas (throws) and Jaret Carpenter (distance) return after placing sixth and 10th overall at the NCAA outdoor championships, respectively.
The 2019 B1G Indoor Championships will be housed in Ann Arbor as Michigan is set to host the event Feb. 23-24, meanwhile the NCAA Indoor Championship will be in Birmingham, Ala. on March 8-9.
The outdoor postseason is scheduled to begin with the B1G Outdoor Championships May 7-11 in Iowa City, followed by the NCAA East Regionals in Jacksonville, Fla. on May 24-26. The NCAA Championships will take place June 5-8 in Austin, Texas.
Times for events will be designated at a later date. Find the full schedule HERE.
