Petrina Signs with Pro Club in Czech Republic

Andrea Petrina has accepted a professional opportunity in Europe with the Czech club Lokomotiva Brno Horní Heršpice.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue women's soccer 2018 graduate Andrea Petrina has accepted a professional opportunity in Europe with the Czech club Lokomotiva Brno Horní Heršpice.

Petrina recorded 14 goals and 11 assists for the Boilermakers while playing in 70 games from 2014 to 2017. She made 54 career starts, earning a spot in the starting 11 in 34 of Purdue's 36 games as an upperclassman. She graduated with her bachelor's degree in communication in May.

Lokomotiva Brno is based in the district of Horní Heršpice on the south side of the city of Brno, Czechia. Lokomotiva Brno is preparing for its second season in the eight-team Czech First Division. Brno is located 200 kilometers southeast of Prague and 130 kilometers north of Vienna, Austria.

"Both of my parents were born in Croatia," Petrina said. "My dad played professionally there with Dinamo Zagreb and Slavonska Požega before moving to Canada, where he also played as well as in the U.S. I'm traveling from my home in the Toronto area to Europe this month and training camp will be in Croatia."

Petrina joins Maddy Williams as Purdue's 2018 graduates to continue their careers in Europe. Last month, Williams signed with the Dutch club PSV Eindhoven of the Eredivise league. Last summer, their former teammate Hannah Leinert signed with Romanian club CFF Olimpia Cluj. Meanwhile, alumna Lauren Sesselmann (2001-05) played professionally for the Santa Clarita Blue Heat of United Women's Soccer again this season.

The Czech First Division competes for the Czech Women's Cup. The top two teams in the 2018 championship round playoff earned UEFA Women's Champions League bids. The 2018-19 season opens the weekend of Aug. 18 to 19. Lokomotvia Brno is slated to be among the first teams to begin its training camp in July. Petrina's team was fifth in the regular season a year ago.

Petrina was a dangerous playmaker for the Boilermakers, seeing action as both a midfielder and forward. She started at least eight games all four seasons and contributed to 20 goals as an upperclassman, scoring 11 and assisting on nine more. Over the years she proved herself equally adept at setting up teammates with quality services on set pieces and generating shots for herself. Petrina finished her career ranked among the Purdue all-time top 10 in shots (196) and shots on goal (83). As a senior, she was ninth in the Big Ten in goals and 10th in points.

The Boilermakers were 7-4-1 when Petrina scored during her career. She helped lead Purdue to its first 10-win season since 2009 as a senior.
