MAINEVILLE, Ohio - The Purdue women's golf team wrapped up a sixth-place performance at the 2017 Big Ten Championships at TPC River's Bend on Sunday, shooting 11-over, 299, and finishing the tournament 37-over, 901. Senior August Kim tied for eighth in the individual standings, shooting a tournament-best two-under, 70, on the final day, and carding a total of three-over, 219, over 54 holes.
Kim got things going in the final round, stringing together four birdies over a seven-hole stretch in the middle of her day to card her lone score under-par for the tournament. She dropped back-to-back birdies on No. 5 and 6, and after three pars sank two more on No. 10 and 11. The score vaulted her into the top-10 of the individual standings, marking her seventh top-10 showing of the season.
Freshman Micaela Farah used an outstanding back-nine to shoot two-over, 74, on the day and tie for 17th in the individual standings at eight-over, 224. With birdies on No. 12 and 13 the Boilermaker rookie carved up her final nine holes, finishing without a bogey down the stretch. Junior Marta Martin had the No. 3 score for the Boilermakers, shooting four-over, 76, including a pair of birdies, and junior Linn Andersson and sophomore Ida Ayu Indira Melati Putri halved the final team score at seven-over, 79.
Michigan State took home the team title, shooting three-under, 285, on the final day to finish two-over, 866, for the championship and become the first outright team champion since 2012. Northwestern was the team runner-up, shooting seven-over, 295 on the final day to finish four-over, 868, for the championship and Ohio State was third at 13-over, 877. Michigan's Elodie Van Dievoet captured individual medalist honors, posting a 54-hole score of six-under, 210, and is the first-ever player from Michigan to take home the individual crown. Michigan State's Sarah Burnham was second at five-under, 211, Minnesota's Emie Peronnin took third at four-under, 212, and Michigan State's Allyson Geer was the only other player in the field to finish at par or better, shooting even-par 216.
The Boilermakers await for of an at-large bid to the NCAA Regionals, heading to one-of-four locations for the postseason championships. The four regionals are set for Athens, Georgia, Columbus, Ohio, Lubbock, Texas and Albuquerque, New Mexico.
