MAINEVILLE, Ohio - The Purdue women's golf opened play at the 2017 Big Ten Championships on Friday, shooting 11-over, 299, and sitting in sixth place at TPC River's Bend. Junior Marta Martin carded the top individual score for the Boilermakers, shooting one-over, 73, and sitting tied for seventh on the leaderboard after day one.

The Boilermakers got off to a great start as they were even-par at the turn with four players all sitting even on the scorecards. Sophomore Ida Ayu Indira Melati Putri closed the front nine with back-to-back birdies to even her scorecard, while Martin, senior August Kim and freshman Micaela Farah each traded a birdie and bogey over the first nine holes.

Things appeared to keep trending up for the Old Gold and Black on the backside as five of their six players carded a birdie on the par 5 11th, taking over the team lead. However, the tables turned over the final seven holes as the team shot a combined 12-over to slip down the scoreboard to sixth.

Kim, Farah and Putri turned in the other three scores after Martin to account for the final team total. Kim and Farah finished up at three-over, 75, while Putri shot four-over, 76. Sophomore Covadonga SanJuan and junior Linn Andersson shot six-over, 78, and eight-over, 80, respectively.

Northwestern owns the team lead after 18 holes, shooting even-par, 288, while Wisconsin is in second at three-over, 291. Michigan's Elodie Van Dievoet sits on top of the individual leaderboard at three-under, 69, followed closely by Minnesota's Emie Peronnin and Northwestern's Sarah Cho at two-under, 70. Wisconsin's Brooke Ferrell and Northwestern's Stephanie Lau are tied for third and one-under, 71. Just six players in the field managed to shoot par or better Friday.

Play resumes tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. ET, and Purdue will take its opening tee time at 9:24 a.m., paired with Ohio State and Michigan State.
