HOUSTON, Texas - The Purdue women's golf team is tied for fourth place after 36 holes at The Dickson, hosted at The Woodlands Country Club by the University of Houston on Monday. The Boilermakers opened the day with an outstanding round of six-under, 282, and pushed their team score as low as 10-under in the second round, but had a tough finish and head into the final 18 holes at one-over, 282-295=577.
Purdue's first-round score matches the eighth-best team round in program history, and the best by the Boilermakers in the last six seasons. Senior standout August Kim did the heavy lifting with a four-under, 68, sinking six birdies in the round, while junior Marta Martin and freshman Micaela Farah both came in under-par at one-under, 71. Sophomore Covadonga SanJuan was steady over the first 18 holes, making 16 pars to go with one birdie and one bogey, and classmate Ida Ayu Indira Melati Putri was solid, carding a two-over, 74, despite not posting a team score for the Boilermakers.
The Boilermakers picked up where they left off in the second round, coasting out to an impressive team score of 10-under in the early going, but stumbled down the stretch as they gave back seven shots over the final 18 holes of the day, shooting 295, and finishing the day tied with Texas Tech and Texas A&M in the No. 4 spot on the team leaderboard. Farah had the top individual score of the round at even-par, 72, finishing one-under for the day and tied for 16th place, individually, while SanJuan and Martin are two strokes back at one-over par, with respective marks of 73 and 74 in the second round. SanJuan and Martin are tied with Kim in the individual standings at 20th place, while Putri turned in the final team score of the second round at four-over, 76.
Third-ranked Florida State was on fire Monday, shooting rounds of 13-under, 275, and nine-under, 279, to sit 22-under par and own a 15 shot lead over second-place SMU. Kent State is in third place at one-under par, just two shots ahead of the Boilermakers. Florida State's Morgane Metraux and Texas A&M's Maddie Szeryk are tied for the top spot on the individual board at nine-under, 135.
The third and final round begins tomorrow at 9 a.m. ET, as the Boilermakers will play with the Red Raiders for the third straight round, and are joined by Texas A&M as well.
