Purdue Men and Women host Michigan State
Friday, Jan. 13 at 5 p.m. ET
Boilermaker Aquatic Center / West Lafayette, Indiana
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue swimming & diving teams resume their dual meet schedules with the first of three straight co-ed home meets, hosting Michigan State on Friday.
Action at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center begins at 5 p.m. The first 200 fans in attendance receive a free Purdue T-shirt. All regular-season home meets feature free admission.
The Purdue swimmers have not competed since finishing second at Virginia Tech's H2Okie Fall Invitational the weekend of Nov. 17 to 19. The Divers have been idle from competition since the USA Diving Winter Nationals wrapped up the week before Christmas. But the Boilermakers continued to train diligently throughout the semester break on campus, taking part in over 20 practice sessions during their winter training camps.
Michigan State has been a regular opponent for Purdue over the years, but the last two meets with the Spartans were contested in unique fashion. Two years ago after also remaining on campus for winter training, the Boilermakers hosted MSU for a three-day co-ed dual in which 24 events were contested. Last season, Purdue opened its season with a trip to East Lansing for a rare outdoor meet. The triple dual also featured Michigan and was contested amid unseasonably cold weather at MSU's IM Sports West Pool outdoor facility.

The Boilermakers have not competed at home since hosting Miami (Ohio) for a co-ed dual and the annual Indiana Intercollegiates the weekend of Oct. 21 to 22. Indiana visits the Boilermaker Aquatic Center next weekend (Jan. 21) and it is Purdue's turn to host the two-day Big Ten Triple Duals with Minnesota and Northwestern (Jan. 27-28). The fall of 2013 marked the last time the Boilermakers competed at home on three consecutive weekends. That stretch included the Indiana Intercollegiates as the home opener, followed by a dual meet vs. Notre Dame and a multi-team dual vs. Northwestern, Ohio State and the Iowa men.
Among active Boilermakers, Meagan Lim was Purdue's standout performer the last time Michigan State visited the Boilermaker Aquatic Center. She won three events (100 back, 200 IM, 400 IM) while also having the top time in the 100 butterfly despite swimming in the exhibition heat. Marat Amaltdinov (200 breast, 400 IM), Steele Johnson (springboard diving sweep) and Hannah Manger (50 back, 100 IM) also won multiple events.
Friday's co-ed meet will feature the default the 16-event lineup with the exception of the 100 individual medley and 200 freestyle replay replacing the 200 IM and 400 free relay as the final two events of the night. The 100 IM is not featured often, but was part of the last Purdue-MSU dual in West Lafayette. Along with Manger winning the women's event, Austin Flager, Adam Noens and Annie Spalding were also victorious in their 100 IM heats. Grace Hernandez (100 free), Kaersten Meitz (1000 free) and Flager (50 free) were the other event winners among active Boilermakers.
Johnson (10 wins), Nick McDowell (8), Meitz (8), Amaltdinov (6), Jackie Smailis (4) and Filip Bujoczek (4) are the team leaders in individual event victories this season. The Purdue women are 5-1 in dual meets while the men are 2-2.
