WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -
The track & field teams open 2017 by hosting the 22nd annual Gene Edmonds Open. The Boilermakers welcome competitors from IPFW, IUPUI, Northern Illinois, Tennessee Tech and Western Kentucky to the two-day meet. The action begins Friday at 3:30 p.m. ET at Lambert Fieldhouse with the women's pentathlon. The rest of the action is Saturday and starts at 11 a.m.

Sixty-one Boilermakers are scheduled to compete in the meet. Devynne Charlton will be among the headliners on the women's side, while Malcolm Dotson will be among the men's leaders. Charlton is slated to compete for the Old Gold and Black for the first time since the 2016 NCAA Indoor Championships, where she finished third in the 60-meter hurdles, after missing the outdoor season with a back injury. Dotson opened the season in December with a pair of personal records in the 60-meter dash and is currently fourth in the country in the event.

Several of the usual suspects will compete for Purdue, including school record holders in eight indoor events. Symone Black is back in action after breaking the almost-30-year-old school record in the 500-meter dash at the Hoosier Open in December. Black is also a member of the school-record 4x400-meter relay team and has top-five times in program history in the 200- and 400-meter dashes. Savannah Carson, the school record holder in the 60m dash, is also scheduled to compete. She also has top-six marks in the 200m dash and long jump.

Charlton, the reigning Big Ten Track Athlete of the Championships, will look to better her school record in the 60-meter hurdles and 200m dash, while trying to reclaim her record in the 60m dash. Fellow Bahamian Carmiesha Cox will compete and has a top-four time in the 60m and 200m dashes. Brionna Thomas, the record holder in the 400m dash and 4x400m relay, is also scheduled to compete on the track. Seven other women ranked in the top 10 in school history in their respective event are scheduled to compete this weekend.

On the men's side, 4x400-meter relay first team All-Americans Obokhare Ikpefan, Shawndail McLaren, Kinard Rolle and Kyle Webb are slated to compete. NCAA Championships qualifiers Keanu Pennerman, Anaquan Peterson and Caleb Fricke are also set to compete in the jumps and sprints, throws, respectively. Luke Lewis, an outdoor regional qualifier and Big Ten finalist, will compete in the shot put where he currently sits just outside the top 10 in program history.

The meet will begin Friday with the pentathlon. Rebecca Coan and Jaden Mattox are set to compete for the Boilermakers.

A full meet program and timing sheet will be posted to PurdueSports.com when they become available prior to the start of competition.
