WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Boilermakers gutted out a four-set win over Maryland on Wednesday. Purdue won the match 25-23, 25-15, 16-25, 28-26 despite falling behind 13-6 in the final set.

Junior Danielle Cuttino paced the offense with 22 kills, while sophomore Brooke Peters held things down defensively with a career-best 20 digs.

Aiding Cuttino at the net were junior Azariah Stahl (12), redshirt sophomore Sherridan Atkinson (7), redshirt freshman Blake Mohler (5) and redshirt junior Ashley Evans (5). Cuttino also put up a team-best four blocks, while Evans added three to do with a 47-assist, 10-dig double-double.

Peters was one of four Boilermakers with double-digit digs alongside freshman Natalie Haben (13), redshirt sophomore Carissa Damler (13) and Evans. Damler also served up an ace as did Mohler.

The Boilermakers outhit the Terrapins .250 to .208 and outdug Maryland 66 to 57.

Purdue managed a .286 hitting percentage in Set 1, while Cuttino tallied six kills in a 25-23 win. The teams tied 18 times and the lead changed hands on six occasions. The Boilermakers scored the first three points of the set, but Maryland soon went up 6-4. The teams tied at 6-6 setting off a string of eight ties, last at 13-all. An ace by Damler and kill by Mohler put Purdue up 15-13 at the TV timeout. The Terrapins battled back to go up 20-18. Kills from Cuttino, Atkinson and Mohler pulled the Boilermakers even at 22. An Atkinson kill and two Maryland miscues gave Purdue the win.

The Boilermakers held Maryland to a .000 hitting percentage and got five kills from Stahl in a 25-15 Set 2 win. Purdue jumped out to a 6-3 lead and went on to a 10-7 edge, before Maryland put together a 5-1 run to turn the deficit into a 12-11 edge of its own. The Boilermakers called timeout and outscored the Terrapins 14-3 en route to the win. Six UM errors, four kills from Stahl and two Mohler blocks aided Purdue down the stretch.

Maryland hit at a .556 clip in a 25-16 Set 3 win. Purdue scored two of the first three points, but the Terrapins led by as many as seven en route to the victory. Five kills by Cuttino highlighted the set for the Boilermakers.

The Boilermakers came back from a 13-6 deficit in Set 4 and fought off three Maryland set point attempts in a 28-26 win to clinch the match. Cuttino put the Boilermakers on her back with eight kills, while Stahl added four and Evans chipped in three. The Terrapins used a 9-2 run to take the 13-6 midset lead. Purdue responded with eight of the next 11 points, including three Cuttino putaways, to narrow the gap to two at 16-14. Down 19-15, the Boilermakers rallied to within one at 20-19 after Cuttino and Stahl put down two kills apiece. Maryland called timeout and went up 23-20 after the break. A kill and solo block by Cuttino cut the margin to one, but a kill gave the Terps their first set point chance. A block by Mohler and Atkinson and a UM hitting error knotted the score at 24. Down 25-24, Purdue got help from two more Terrapin errors to earn their own set point chance at 26-25. Kills by redshirt senior Faye Adelaja and Evans ended the match.

The Boilermakers (15-9, 5-8 B1G) return to action at 8 p.m. Saturday when they take on No. 3 Wisconsin in Madison.
