WILMINGTON, N.C. - The 14th-ranked Purdue women's golf wrapped up a fourth-place performance at the 15th-annual Landfall Tradition on Sunday, shooting four-over, 292, for the day and eight-over, 872, for the tournament at the Pete Dye Course at the Country Club of Landfall. The showing is the Boilermakers' best at Landfall since tying for third in 2012, as senior August Kim placed second in the individual standings, while sophomore Ida Ayu Indira Melati Putri had her career-best showing, tying for eighth.
Kim was nearly perfect Sunday, shooting two-under par, 70, with a trio of birdies, and finishing the tournament at six-under, 210, marking her best 54-hole score so far in her senior season. Starting play on the fourth hole Sunday, she carded birdies on No. 8, No. 15 and No. 18, before giving one back on No. 2 as she finished up.
Putri was just shy of Kim on Sunday with a one-under, 71, dominating the back nine with five birdies and a 31 for the side. She opened the day on No. 4, making bogey on her first hole and No. 8, but reeled off a birdie on No. 11, three straight on No. 13, 14 and 15, and tagging on one more on No. 18 before heading back to No. 1. A bogey on No. 3 closed up her day, but she finished the tournament three-under, 213, smashing her best collegiate 54-hole score by seven strokes.
The Boilermakers' other two team scores Sunday came from juniors Linn Andersson and Marta Martin, who shot three-over, 75, and four-over, 76, respectively. Despite not turning in a team score Sunday, sophomore Covadonga SanJuan was the Boilermakers' No. 3 individual finisher, tying for 37th at nine-over, 225.
South Carolina and Wake Forest tied for the team title at five-under, 859, marking the Gamecocks first Landfall title and giving the Demon Deacons a share of their fourth. Wake Forest's Jennifer Kupcho ran away with medalist honors, shooting four-under, 68, Sunday and finishing nine-under, 207, for the tournament. Furman took third in the team standings, edging the Boilermakers by five strokes as the Paladins shot two-under, 286, Sunday. Among the teams to finish below the Boilermakers were top-ranked Alabama, No. 15 North Carolina, No. 21 UCF and No. 23 Oklahoma.
The Landfall Tradition wraps up the Boilermakers' fall schedule, as they'll play next in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, hosting the Lady Puerto Rico Classic at Rio Mar Country Club starting Feb. 12.
