The Murph Challenge
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Members of the Purdue wrestling team raised $1,000 for the LT. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation by completing The Murph Challenge on July 28.
The challenge workout consists of a one-mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, followed by another one-mile run, all while wearing a 20-pound vest. The workout is in memory of Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy of Patchogue, New York, who was killed in Afghanistan on June 28, 2005.
"It was a very special and memorable workout for us because not only were we training and battling together as a team, we were pushing each other a little bit extra knowing the history of The Murph Challenge and dedicating our efforts to the incredible life and courage Lieutenant Michael Murphy showed in Afghanistan," redshirt sophomore Ben Thornton said.
The Murph Challenge is the official fundraiser of the LT. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation, presented by Forged®. According to TheMurphChallenge.com, "The 'MURPH' is more than just a workout, it is a tradition that helps push us, humble us, and dedicate a bit of pain and sweat to honor a man who gave everything he had."
