MADISON, Wis. -- The Boilermakers split a Saturday doubleheader with Wisconsin, falling 9-3 in a Game 1 slugfest and rebounding with a 5-4 win in the night cap, which featured a stellar pitching effort and marked the 700th win in program history.

The victory moves Purdue to 700-578-7 all-time, since its inception in 1994. The program's 600th victory came against Utah State on Feb. 15, 2013.

Junior Kristen Hoppman led the Purdue bats with three hits on the day, while freshman Lauren Stewart, sophomore Kaylah Hampton and senior Mary Gooding posted two hits.

In the circle, sophomore Gina Snyder struck out six in the Game 2 victory, while senior Lilly Fecho was saddled with the Game 1 loss, but earned the save, throwing the final two thirds of inning in the night cap.

The Boilermakers (22-17, 4-6 B1G) and Badgers will face off again at 2 p.m. ET Sunday.

Wisconsin 9, Purdue 5
The Boilermakers scored first, but could not overcome an offensive surge by the Badgers in a 9-5 Game 1 loss.

The Boilermakers scored five runs on five hits and three errors, led by two hit efforts by junior Kristen Hoppman and senior Mary Gooding. Wisconsin managed its nine runs on 11 hits and an error.

Reliever Taylor-Paige Stewart (10-8) struck out three in the final three and a third innings en route to the win for Wisconsin. Senior Lilly Fecho (15-8) struck out three batters in three and two thirds innings, while freshman Maddie Damon issued one K in two and a third innings of relief work.

Hoppman and Gooding singled to lead off the game and were joined by sophomore Kayla Hampton, who was hit by a pitch to fill the bases. Freshman Mallory Baker picked up the RBI, reaching on a fielder's choice play at second base as Hoppman scurried home. A liner to third base and a ground out ended the inning.

Wisconsin tied it up as Kelsey Jenkins rounded the bases after a one-out throwing error in the home half of the first. The Badgers tacked on two more runs in the second inning on a Sara Novak two-run home run.

Freshman Emily Kenny walked and Gooding added a single in the third, but a fly out and fielder's choice play left two aboard.

The Boilermakers tied it up in the fourth inning, scoring two runs on a hit and two errors. Freshman Lauren Stewart singled and went to second on a fielding error by the center fielder. A ground ball to the shortstop moved her to third. The Badgers tried to get Stewart at home on a fielder's choice play that put senior Paris Andrew aboard, but were unsuccessful in preventing the RBI. Freshman Lexi Huffman was then hit by a pitch. She and Andrew then pulled off a double steal, but Andrew came home on the play as the catcher's throw sailed into left field. Huffman went to third on another ground out, but a strikeout by Stewart, who entered the game in relief, left her stranded and kept the game at 3-3.

Wisconsin responded with five runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth, putting the game out of reach. A hit by pitch, bunt single and wild pitch put two in scoring position, setting up an RBI single. A fielder's choice play at second base allowed the second score. A single put runners at the corners setting up another fielder's choice play for an RBI. A double with runners at second and third plated two more runs to make it 8-3. Damon entered the game and forced a ground ball to first base to get out of the inning.

Purdue 5, Wisconsin 4
The Boilermakers overcame an early 1-0 deficit with a four-run third inning and a fifth in the sixth stanza, and held off a late Badger surge for the win and doubleheader split.

Sophomore Kaylah Hampton led the Boilermakers bats with two hits, while five others contributed to the team's five runs on seven hits and two errors. Wisconsin managed its four runs on six hits and an error.

Sophomore Gina Snyder (4-3) struck out six in the victory for Purdue, while senior Lilly Fecho picked up the save, facing the final three batters of the game. Kirsten Stevens (8-7) was saddled with the loss for Wisconsin after giving up four runs in two and a third innings.

A leadoff walk, an error and a single gave the Badgers their first run of the game in the bottom of the first. The walk, the error on a fielder's choice play and the RBI single up the middle plated the run.

Purdue tallied its first hit of the game on a single by freshman Lauren Stewart. Hampton added a single through the left side, but two pop ups ended the stanza.

The Boilermakers broke onto the scoreboard with four runs on five hits in the third inning. Senior Sydney Pencek singled and went to third on a double by junior Kristen Hoppman. Senior Mary Gooding brought Pencek in with a sacrifice fly to center field. Senior Katie Harrison single, pushing Hoppman to third. A single to left field by freshman Mallory Baker accounted for the RBI and moved pinch runner Morgan Cavinder to second. Taylor-Paige Stewart took over in the circle for Wisconsin, but couldn't stop the Purdue rally, which ended on a fly out after a two-run single to right by Hampton made it 4-1 Boilermakers.

An error put Stewart on first to start the sixth. She went to second on a wild pitch, third on dropped third strike, which put Andrew on base, and came home on a fielder's choice play at second base. Senior CJ Parsons picked up the RBI.

Wisconsin scored three runs on three hits in the seventh, but the Boilermaker defense held to cut the comeback effort short. A single and a walk set up an RBI double, which spelled the end of Snyder's day. Fecho entered the game, but the Badgers continued with an RBI single and a fielder's choice play at second base for another score, but a fly ball to center field, reeled in by Wisconsin native Kristen Hoppman sealed the Purdue victory.
