Day Two Results / Tournament Bracket

ATHENS, Ga. - The Purdue women's golf team split a pair of head-to-head matches Saturday in the Red Bracket of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, falling to sixth-ranked, tournament-host Georgia, 3-1-1, and rebounding with a 5-0 shutout of Denver. The Boilermakers will battled fourth-ranked Big Ten rival Northwestern tomorrow in the fifth-place match, set to tee off at 8 a.m. ET at the UGA Golf Course.

Junior August Kim turned in an outstanding day of golf, earning a pair of wins to lead the Boilermakers, while senior Anna Appert Lund was 1-0-1 for the day. Sophomores Marta Martin and Linn Andersson and freshman Covadonga SanJuan all split their matches for the afternoon. Kim and Appert Lund tied for the largest wins of the day, each notching a 5&4 victory.

The Boilermakers opened the day against the Bulldogs, and battled early against the sixth-ranked hosts. Kim lost her first hole against Isabella Skinner but rolled the rest of the way, stretching her lead to five after 14 holes and closing out the match. Appert Lund and SanJuan had leads early against their Georgia opponents, but the Bulldogs rallied late and sealed up three wins to clinch the win.

Purdue took care of business in the second round, blanking the Pioneers 5-0 behind impressive performances across the board. Appert Lund needed 14 holes to close out Denver's Kathi Baratta, 5&4, while Andersson won over Sophie Newlove, 3&2. Martin and SanJuan played almost the full 18, finishing with 2&1 wins over Mariell Bruun and Jessica Carty, respectively, while Kim went all the way to the wire with Jessica Dreesbeimdieke, winning the 18th to finish up a 2-up victory and seal the sweep.

Third-ranked UCLA and No. 5 Alabama will meet for the Liz Murphey crown tomorrow, as the Bruins won by tiebreaker over No. 14 Kent State and second-ranked USC, while the Crimson Tide topped Denver 4-1 and Georgia 3.5-1.5.
