TUCSON, Ariz. - The Purdue women's golf team wrapped up the opening 36 holes of play at the MountainView Collegiate in sixth place, shooting 12-over, 588, at MountainView Golf Club. Junior August Kim paced the Boilermakers with a two-round total of one-under, 143, and is tied for sixth in the individual standings heading into the final round of play.
A trio of Boilermakers shot par or better in the opening round of the tournament as the team shot an ever-par, 288, led by Kim's low-round of three-under, 69. Freshman Covadonga SanJuan posted her second straight round under par, backing up Tuesday's final round at the Wildcat Invitational with another two-under, 70, while senior Anna Appert Lund shot even-par, 72. Sophomore Linn Andersson had the final team score of the round at five-over, 77, while classmate Marta Martin played a solid round outside of two tough holes, shooting eight-over, 80. Purdue finished the opening round in fourth place in the team standings, trailing tournament leader Georgia by six strokes.
Purdue dropped two spots on the leaderboard in the second round, shooting 12-over, 300, through the next 18 holes. All five Boilermakers shot over par in the second, with Kim's two-over, 74, posting the team low score for the fifth consecutive 18-hole round. SanJuan and Appert Lund were just behind at three-over, 75, while Andersson had the fourth and final team score at four-over, 76.
Georgia, ranked fifth in the country entering Friday, has an eight-shot lead on the field at six-under, 570, gaining all six of its strokes under par in the opening round. Iowa State is second at two-over, 578, and Missouri is third at five-over, 581. Georgia's Jillian Hollis has a commanding lead in the individual standings, finishing the first day 11-under par, 133, shooting six-under, 66, in the first round and five-under, 67, in the second. She owns a nine-shot lead on the four players tied for second.
The final round of play is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. ET.
