WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Purdue women's golf team completed its fall season Sunday with an eighth-place showing at the 14th-annual Landfall Tradition, hosted by UNC Wilmington at the Country Club of Landfall Pete Dye Course. The Boilermakers shot three-over, 291, on the day, and finished 23-over par, 887, for the tournament, led by senior Anna Appert Lund, who tied for 10th place, individually.
The third and final round was the best of the tournament for the Old Gold and Black, paced by matching scores of two-under, 70, from Appert Lund and junior August Kim. Appert Lund sank four birdies on the day, while Kim had three with just one bogey on the afternoon. Sophomore Marta Martin had one of her best rounds of the fall season, finishing with a two-over, 74, including an eagle on the par-five, 485-yard fourth hole, and classmate Linn Andersson accounted for the final team score at five-over, 77.
Appert Lund finished one-over, 217, for the tournament to tie for 10th place, marking her second top-10 finish of the year and 15th of her collegiate career. Kim was one stroke back, shooting two-over, 218, and tying for 16th place in the individual standings. She's placed in the top-20 of all three fall outings for the Boilermakers and now has eight top-20 finishes for her career.
Duke led wire-to-wire at Landfall, taking the team title by 11 strokes at nine-under, 855, for the weekend. Unranked Notre Dame took second at two-over, 866, and Oklahoma State was third at three-over, 867. Michigan State's Sarah Burnham had a monster Sunday, shooting a six-under, 66, to take medalist honors at five-under, 211, for the tournament.
The Boilermakers are off for the winter, returning to action in February at the 2016 Lady Puerto Rico Classic, in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
