SOUTH BEND, Indiana - The Purdue women's golf team secured an automatic bid to the 2015 NCAA Championships on Saturday, tying for fifth place at the South Bend Regional, hosted by Notre Dame at Warren Golf Course. The Boilermakers had a tough final day at the event, shooting 18-over par as a team, but held on to match Tulane for the final qualifying spot for the national championships.

The Boilermakers finished the 54-hole event at 24-over par, 299-283-306=888, joining Duke, Wake Forest, UC Davis, Arizona and Tulane above the cut for NCAAs. The three individual qualifying spots for nationals went to Michaela Fletcher of Memphis, Leilanie Kim of Idaho and Kentucky's Isabelle Johansson. The Blue Devils had the top team score of the weekend, finishing nine-over par, 873, led by Leona Maguire, who claimed medalist honors at four-under.

Purdue got off to a solid start on Saturday, getting birdies from sophomore August Kim, senior Aurora Kan and freshman Marta Martin over the first five holes. However, things started going south for the Old Gold and Black as their team score grew to five-over at the turn and 11-over by the 12th hole. Kan fought back from a disaster on the seventh hole to shoot one-under on the back-nine and card a counting team score on the day at six-over par.

Kim had the Boilermakers' top score of the day and top individual finish for the tournament, shooting three-over on Saturday to finish tied for eighth at two-over, 218. Junior Anna Appert Lund was four-over on the day to finish tied for 21st at six-over par, while Kan finished tied for 31st at eight-over. Senior Johanna Tillström logged her first team score of the tournament on Saturday, shooting five-over, and freshman Marta Martin finished seven-over par Saturday to finished tied for 36th at 10-over for the weekend.

The NCAA Championships are scheduled for May 24-27, at the Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida. It marks the Boilermakers' 15th trip to the national tournament in the last 16 years, as they're set to compete in the first match-play style NCAA women's championships.
