Florida Relays Results

GAINESVILLE, Fla./PALO ALTO, Calif. -  The Boilermakers opened the Florida Relays and Stanford Invite on Friday. The team had a handful of personal records, including times and marks that rank among the top 10 in program history, while Matthew McClintock broke his own school record.

Savannah Carson, the reigning Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week, started her weekend off with a PR in the long jump. The sophomore leapt 6.06 meters (19-10.75) to finish fourth in the competition. Her mark ranks eighth all time in Purdue history. Carson also competed in the 100m dash where she ran a time of 11.87 seconds. Her time finished 47th overall and was 0.21 of a second of her PR from last week.

Devynne Charlton had a strong day as well. In the 100m hurdles, she finished 15th overall and eighth among collegians with a time of 13.44 seconds. That time is just 0.08 of a second off her PR. Charlton also ran in the 100m dash, where she ran a wind-legal PR. She ran a time of 11.78 seconds into a headwind of 1.3 meters per second. That time is 0.08 of a second off her all-conditions best and ranks fifth in school history among wind-legal times.

Vanessa McLeod ran a season best in the 800m run. McLeod finished 13th overall and 10th among collegians with a time of 2:08.37. Symone Black was also a top-15 finisher on the day. She took 15th overall and ninth among collegians in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.50 seconds. Jessica Harter was strong in the pole vault with a fifth place finish. She cleared 4.00m (13-1.50) on her second attempt to finish fourth among collegians. Gabrielle Broschard ran her first collegiate 3,000-meter steeplechase and finished 15th. The freshman ran a time of 10:44.24.

On the men's side, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi finished third in the hammer throw. He threw a distance of 67.58m (221-09). The distance is within a meter of his personal best, which he threw last season. Tyler Askew took seventh in the long jump. He leapt 7.18m (23-6.75). The men's 4x400m relay team finished fourth in the prelims with a time of 3:08.19. The team advances to Saturday's finals as the second-fastest collegiate team.

Across the country at the Stanford Invite, McClintock, Tate Schienbein and Caleb Kerr competed in the men's 5,000-meter run. Schienbein finished fourth in his race with a time of 14:17.19, while Kerr was 13th with a time of 14:29.61. McClintock was ninth in his section with a time of 13:56.80. His time was very significant, though, because it broke his own school record. He became the first person in school history to run a sub-14 minute 5k.

Hope Schmelzle was also out west and ran in the steeplechase. She finished with a time of 10:30.19, the top collegiate time and second overall. The time is within seven seconds of her PR.

The Boilermakers continue both meets on Saturday. Full results and a recap will be posted to PurdueSports.com.
