EVANSTON, Ill. - No. 21 Northwestern showed it was too strong for the Purdue men's tennis team in a 7-0 loss indoors Sunday at the Combe Tennis Center. With the loss, the Boilermakers' record slipped to 4-7, 0-2 B1G, while the Wildcats moved to 10-5, 1-1 B1G.
Wins at the Nos. 2 and 3 spots allowed Northwestern to claim the doubles point. First, Purdue's Mateus Silva and Lucas Dages fell to Alp Horoz and Mihih Kumar, 8-0, at No. 3. Wildcat duo Sam Shropshire and Alex Pasareanu handled Renan Hanayama and Arthur Dobradin, 8-2.
Straight-set victories were tallied by NU in all six singles matches. Dages was able to force a tiebreaker in the last set at No. 6, but eventually fell to Horoz, 6-1, 7-6.
It will be nearly two weeks before the Old Gold & Black are back in action. They will compete in the Oracle Challenge March 20-22 in Indian Wells, Calif.
