Senior Aurora Kan drained a 20-foot birdie on No. 7, and made par on No. 8 to seal the Boilermakers' win on Sunday.
ATHENS, Georgia - The Purdue women's golf team finished off its sweep of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic Black bracket on Sunday, topping No. 14 Stanford, 3-2, at the University of Georgia Golf Course. Freshman Marta Martin finished up a flawless 3-0, while junior Anna Appert Lund and senior Aurora Kan accounted for the other two wins as the Boilermakers took their third win over a top-25 opponent on the weekend.
Martin and Appert Lund put the first two team points on the board as each needed just 15 holes to finish off their respective opponents, 4&3. Martin took the lead over Stanford's Casey Danielson on the fifth hole of play and never looked back, extending her advantage to three-up after the first nine holes, and bumping the lead to four-up on their 12th hole before coasting in for the win. Appert Lund took a different route, trailing early to Mariah Stackhouse before rallying on the front-nine to earn her second win of the weekend. Stackhouse won the first two holes, Appert Lund fought back on Holes No. 12 and 13, and Stackhouse regained the lead on No. 14. The pair finished the back-nine all-square, but Appert Lund took over as they went back to the front side, winning three of the next four holes before sealing the victory on No. 6.
The Cardinal got on the board as Mariko Tumangan topped Purdue senior Johanna Tillström, 5&4, as Tumangan led wire-to-wire before finishing off the win on No. 5. Tillström won No. 12 and No. 1, but couldn't get it going as she fell to 1-2 on the weekend. Kan fell into a quick hole against Lauren Kim, trailing by three after the first four holes, but began to chip away at the lead by taking the 14th, 15th and 17th holes and evening the score as they went back to the front nine. Kan continued her run with a victory on No. 1, but Kim took things back to square on No. 3, leaving them tied with six holes to play. They played even over the next three, but Kan secured the team win, 2&1, with a birdie on No. 7 and a par on No. 8 to push the Boilermakers to 4-1 in match play on the year.
Purdue sophomore August Kim trailed Quirine Eijekenboom by two holes with three to play, but the match was halted due to Kan sealing the Boilermakers' team victory.
The Boilermakers will take next weekend off before heading to Dallas for the Dallas Athletic Club/Southern Methodist University Invitational, April 10 and 11, at the Dallas Athletic Club. Purdue tied for 13th at a rain-shortened 2014 event as Kan and Appert Lund tied for 23rd-place, individually.
