CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Boilermakers wrapped up a perfect weekend at the Michelle Smith Spring Break Tournament with a 4-1 win over Colgate Sunday afternoon. Rookie Gina Snyder shined in the circle with a season- best 12 strikeouts.

Purdue scored its four runs on nine hits and an error, while allowing Colgate a run on four hits and an error. Senior Alyssa Koorsen posted three hits, while senior Ashley Burkhardt added two.

Snyder (3-0) struck out 12 in the complete-game victory, her third in as many days, while Kira Griswold (0-3) was saddled with the loss for the Raiders.

The Boilermakers got two hits in the first inning on singles by Koorsen and Burkhardt, but could not bring them home.

Both teams stranded a runner after earning second inning walks.

A Koorsen triple coupled with a Colgate throwing error on the back end of the play put the Boilers up 1-0 in the third. The triple down the right field line saw Koorsen slide into third. She then got up and hustled home as the throw in from the outfield sailed long. Freshman Kaylah Hampton was hit by a pitch, junior Paris Andrew singled and sophomore Kristen Hoppman walked to load the bases, but a fly out ended the inning.

The Raiders evened the score with a run on three hits in the fourth. A double down the left field line combined with a two-out single to center field plated the run. Colgate also got another single in the inning.

The Boilermakers scored the game-winner and then some with a three-run, three-hit fourth. Junior Mary Gooding walked, was sacrificed to second and went to third on a single by freshman Maya Hughes. Hughes went to second on the throw to keep Gooding from scoring. Koorsen drove Gooding home with a single to center. The throw home moved Hughes and Gooding to second and third, setting up an RBI grounder to second by Burkhardt. Hampton added the final score with a double to left center, bringing in Koorsen.

A bunt single by Hoppman and a hit by pitch that put senior Alex Whittemore aboard started the fifth and a sacrifice moved them into scoring position, but a pop up and strikeout left the score at 4-1.

Colgate got a two-out single in the sixth, but a pop up stranded the runner.

Purdue had another scoring opportunity in the sixth as Burkhardt tripled to left center, but a pair of foul outs capped the inning.

A two-base fielding error gave Colgate life in the seventh, but the Boilermaker defense held recording two pop ups and a strikeout to end it.

The Boilermakers (18-8) take a six-game win streak into their Tuesday doubleheader with Central Connecticut State. The games are set for 9 a.m. and 11:15 at E.C. Moore Complex fields 1 and 2.
