FULLERTON, Calif. - The Boilermakers outhit Cal State Fullerton 9-7, including two-hit days by junior Mary Gooding, sophomore Kristen Hoppman, freshman Kaylah Hampton, and hits by six different players in a 5-3 loss to the Titans to wrap Day 1 of the So Cal Collegiate Challenge.

Christina Washington went the distance in the circle for Fullerton, striking out three and allowing three walks. Senior Alex Whittemore was saddled with the loss for the Boilers, striking out one and giving up four runs in the first inning. Senior Lexy Moore went five complete innings, issuing one strikeout. Freshman Gina Snyder threw the final inning and a third for the Boilers.

The Titans scored first, plating four runs on a pair of bases-loaded singles in the bottom of the first inning. Moore took over in the circle with two outs and runners at the corners, and forced a fly out to escape further damage.

Freshman Kaylah Hampton gave Purdue its first hit with a solid one-out single to left in the second stanza. Sophomore Kristen Hoppman moved her to third with a sharp single through the left side. An infield grounder stranded both.

A single by senior Alyssa Koorsen and a walk to senior Ashley Burkhardt gave the Boilers two on in the third. A fielder's choice play at third ended the rally.

Fullerton combined a walk, a steal and an RBI double up the line for a score in the third.

Hoppman laced a double up the left field line with two outs in the fourth, but was left stranded.

The Boilers loaded the bases in the fifth on singles by freshman Maya Hughes and junior Mary Gooding and a two-out walk to redshirt junior Katie Harrison. A ground ball to third base ended the threat.

Freshman Gina Snyder made her Boilermaker debut in the circle with two outs and a runner on first in the fifth inning and forced a fly ball to get out of the inning.

Snyder pitched over a leadoff walk and a single in the sixth as the Boiler defense held.

The Boilermakers snapped the shutout on an RBI ground out to shortstop by senior Ashley Burkhardt with runners at second and third and one out after a walk to Koorsen and single by Gooding. Harrison tacked on another run, plating Gooding from second with a double to the right field wall. Hampton lifted an RBI into shallow left field to make it 5-3, before a caught foul ball ended the game.

Purdue (0-2) faces San Diego State at 4 p.m. ET Saturday followed by a 9 p.m. contest against No. 7 UCLA. Both games will be played at Easton Stadium in Los Angeles.
