Senior Whitney Bays was named the BTI Invitational MVP after posting 16 points and 13 rebounds in Sunday's game.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's basketball team completed a three-game sweep of the Basketball Travelers International (BTI) Invitational on Sunday at Mackey Arena, defeating visiting Wright State University, 70-46. Senior Whitney Bays carried the torch for the Boilermakers, posting 16 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks en route to tournament MVP honors as Purdue won its fourth straight and improved to 7-4.

Once again the Boilermakers won with defense, holding the Raiders to just 17-of-76 (.224) from the field and just one-for-16 from behind the arc (.063). Purdue held Wright State to just 16 first-half points, the lowest total by an opponent this season, while hitting the 70-point plateau on offense for the first time in regulation this season.

Thing appeared to get off to a slow start for Purdue, hitting just one of its first six shots, but got things on track by hitting 11 of the next 24 in the half. Bays did the heavy lifting with eight points and eight rebounds, while defensively the Boilermakers blocked eight shots en route to a season-high 12 for the game. Wright State senior Tay'ler Mingo came into the game averaging 23.2 points per game (tied for seventh in the NCAA), but was held to just eight points on four-of-14 in the opening frame.

The Boilermakers picked up where they left off in the second half, extending their lead to the end in the 26-point win. Despite giving up 27 offensive rebounds to the Raiders, Purdue only relinquished 13 second-chance points, while outscoring Wright State in the paint, 38-22. The Boilermakers also did an outstanding job sharing the basketball, helping on 21 of their 27 field goals (.778).

Bays' double-double was her second straight, fifth this season and 13th of her career. She moves into a tie for eighth all-time at Purdue with Leslie Johnson, but remains a ways away from the Purdue record of 27, held by Stacey Lovelace. Joining Bays in double-figures were freshman Andreona Keys with 12 points, and senior Liza Clemons and sophomore Ashley Morrissette with 11 each. Clemons added seven rebounds and a career-high four blocks, while junior April Wilson flirted with a triple-double, finishing with six points, eight assists and seven rebounds. Morrissette stuffed the stat sheet as well, adding four assists, three rebounds, two blocks and two steals to her 11 points, while junior Hayden Hamby helped out with a career-high five assists.

Mingo finished with 23 points to lead the Raiders, while fellow senior Tayler Stanton had a game-high 19 rebounds. Bays and Clemons represented Purdue on the BTI All-Tournament Team, joined by Mingo, UC Irvine's Mokun Fajemisin and Denver's Morgan Van Riper-Rose.

The Boilermakers return to action after the holiday break, opening the Big Ten Conference season at Illinois on Dec. 28. Purdue will play at home on Jan. 1 vs. Minnesota and on Jan. 4 against archrival Indiana.
