WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Purdue women's golf team got the weekend off to an amazing start on Friday, shooting -5 (283) to lead the Landfall Tradition, played at the Country Club of Landfall Pete Dye Course. The Boilermakers broke their own Friday team score record for the event, led by senior Aurora Kan's individual score of -4 (68) as she's tied for third place in the individual standings.

In a field loaded with nine top-25 teams, including three of the top-10 and top-ranked South Carolina, the Boilermakers played outstanding golf, minimizing mistakes and taking advantage of nearly every opportunity. Purdue drained 13 birdies on the day, including four apiece from Kan and freshman Marta Martin, and turned in just 11 bogies with nothing worse than a +1 score on the card. Kan matched her career-best round at -4 (68), while Martin and sophomore August Kim both set new 18-hole career records for the second straight tournament, turning in scores of -1 (71) and sitting tied for 12th place individually. Junior Anna Appert Lund accounted for the fourth and final team score on the day, finishing the round at +1 (73), while senior Johanna Tillström just missed recording a team score at +3 (75).

The -5 team score breaks a seven-year old first-round record at the Landfall Tradition, set at 287 by the Boilermakers in 2007, when the Old Gold and Black went on to finish second behind Wake Forest, led by 2009 NCAA Champion Maria Hernandez's second-place individual effort. The Boilermakers just missed the tournament low round record of 281, shared by Tulane and Wake Forest, both shot in the tournament's second round in 2004 and 2007, respectively. In addition to the team score record, the individual first-round record fell on Friday as South Carolina's sixth-ranked Nanna Madsen carded a -6 (66), also matching the lowest individual round for any day in tournament history.

Chasing the Boilermakers in second place is Wake Forest, sitting three shots back at -2 (286), while Florida is third at even par (288). Central Florida is in fourth place at +1 (289), while Alabama, Notre Dame and Oklahoma State are tied for fifth at +2 (290) and five teams are tied for eighth at +4 (292).

Play resumes tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. (ET), but the Boilermakers won't hit the course until 10 a.m., teeing off on the first hole of the course and playing alongside the Demon Deacons and Gators. Live results continue to be available via GolfStat.com.
