TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Purdue cross country teams competed at the Pre-Nationals race on Saturday afternoon. Matthew McClintock was the top finisher for the Boilermakers with a sixth-place finish in the men's blue race.
In the men's race, McClintock was the top Big Ten finisher and the sixth overall finisher after crossing the finish line in 24:16.7. He was 12.2 seconds behind the winner, Edward Cheserek from Oregon. Dillon Hinen was Purdue's second finisher. The junior finished with a time of 25:38.5 to take 125th. Freshman Jeremy Craven was third for Purdue. He took 163rd with a time of 25:51.5.
Fourth for the Boilermakers was freshman David Dalton. He finished in 180th with a time of 26:00.5. Tyler Wynn was Purdue's final scorer. He took 252nd with a time of 26:35.8.
The Purdue men took 30th overall with 726 points. The Boilermakers finished ahead of Big Ten foe Ohio State, who took 37th. Colorado took first with 35 points, while Oregon was second with 91. Georgetown rounded out the top three with 148 points. Penn State was the top Big Ten team, finishing in eighth with 363 points.
On the women's side, Hope Schmelzle was the top finisher for Purdue. She took 96th with a time of 22:03.3. Rachel Johnson of Baylor was the top overall finisher. She won with a time of 20:21.1. Michelle Potter was Purdue's second finisher. She took 123rd with a time of 22:14.1. Kristin Fritts was third for the Boilermakers with a time of 22:21.8. She was 148th overall.
Kiara McIntosh was fourth for the Boilermakers with a 160th place finish. She crossed the finish line in 22:29.5. Sharise Lund closed out Purdue's scoring. She took 191st with a time of 22:40.0.
Purdue took 30th overall with 718 points. The Boilermakers finished one place ahead of Northwestern, who finished with 739 points. Georgetown won the women's race with 110 points. Oregon was second with 139, while Michigan took third with 143 points.
The Boilermakers will be back in action next Friday at the Illinois Invite. That meet is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. ET.
