This weekend's Boilermaker roster consists of seniors Aurora Kan and Johanna Tillström, junior Anna Appert Lund, sophomore August Kim and freshman Marta Martin. Kan is coming off a junior season that garnered first team All-Big Ten honors and three tournament medalist awards, while Kim had an impressive summer that saw her win the Trans Amateur Championship and qualify for the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship, where she made the cut. Tillström and Appert Lund look to be a bit more settled in the Boilermaker lineup this season as 2013-14 was their first with Purdue after transferring in, while Martin aims to hit the ground running in her first tournament with the team.
This weekend's field consists of teams from all over the country, including Big Ten foes Nebraska, Illinois and the host Golden Gophers. Kent State, Augusta State, Cal State Fullerton, Texas State, Colorado, Texas, SMU, East Carolina, Fresno State and Kansas make up the rest of the field, which features a handful of top-50 squads and a few top-50 individuals in the latest GolfWeek rankings.
The Minikahda Club is a 6,119 yard, par 72 course that has played host to several major events over the years, including the 1916 U.S. Open, the 1927 U.S. Amateur, the 1957 Walker Cup, the 1988 U.S. Women's Amateur and the 1998 Curtis Cup. Last year's Minnesota Invitational was played there as well and was won by Kent State with a score of 306-302-294=902. The Golden Flashes were led by individual medalist Jennifer Ha, who aims to defend her tournament title next week.
Play will start at 7:45 a.m. (CT) on Monday and live results will be available via GolfStat.com. For more information on the event, visit Minnesota's official tournament page.
