GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Purdue men's golf team recorded an even-par 288, but could only improve two positions in Sunday's second round to finish in a fifth-place tie at the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate. The Boilermakers finished the 36-hole tournament at 8-over par 584, 13 shots behind tournament winner North Carolina.
The tournament was cut to 36 holes after heavy frost delayed yesterday's first round by two-and-a-half hours, cutting Saturday's action to 18 holes. The event concluded today with 18 holes.
Freshman Philippe Schweizer recorded his best career finish after firing a 1-under par 71 today to finish the tournament at even-par 144 (73-71), good for a ninth-place tie.
Schweizer's previous best finish was tied for 22nd in the Crooked Stick Invitational, and he has improved his tournament finish in every tournament he has played in this fall.
Senior Adam Schenk finished in a 16th-place tie with a one-over par 145 (73-72). Sam Fu had a solid tournament in just his second showing of the fall, finishing tied for 30th at 4-over par 148 (75-73).
Freshman Austin Eoff bounced back from a tough showing on the first day to finish tied for 52nd at 7-over par 151 (79-72). Enzo Perez rounded out Purdue's scoring with a T59th-place finish at 8-over par (75-77).
The fifth-place finish was Purdue's worst of the season in five fall tournaments, but the Boilermakers are still 50-12-3 in head-to-head action.
North Carolina won the tournament with a five-under par 571 (288-283), while Chattanooga was six shots back at one-over par 577 (291-286).
North Carolina's Henry Do and Memphis' Lars van Meijel shared medalist honors at 5-under par 139.
The tournament concluded Purdue's fall competition.
